Embody is a week long residential theology institute for high school girls at Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame, Indiana. Falling somewhere between summer camp and academic seminar, the program includes lectures, interactive learning, and service in the community.

Embody extends the mission of Saint Mary's College, a pioneer in the education of women, by inviting young women of high school age to reflect deeply on the role of faith in their lives and empowering them to go forth and put that faith into action.

The institute assists high school girls in the development of a healthy self- image, a confidence in their ability to contribute to the world, and an understanding of social justice and other religions.

Job Duties

  • A crucial part of the experience is the Saint Mary's students who serve as mentors
  • Mentors lead small groups, organize some activities, and invite participants into community
  • They offer a compassionate presence to participants, create a safe space for sharing and reflection, and provide active listening to the participants' stories and conversations
  • They also assist with various administrative tasks, assist with recruitment to the Institute
  • Serve on-call for emergencies in the residence halls at night during the two weeks in the summer
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Mature college student and living on campus is a requirement for this position.
  • Applicants should be articulate about their faith, open to a diversity of experiences
  • Passionate about being in community with others.
  • They must be able to maintain confidentiality.
  • They must be demonstrated leaders on the Saint Mary's campus
  • Be able to convey openness to and acceptance of participants from diverse backgrounds
  • Mentors must commit to adhering to the Saint Mary's College Student Code of Conduct, while exercising their role as mentor for the Embody program.

    Formation and training will be provided beginning in the spring semester at times that are mutually determined, with an intensive session after finals week in May. Students will work the following dates after the Spring semester ends: 4-5 days during May 14-19, 2023, and July 16-21. No other commitments can occur during July 16-21 as there is no free time during the Institute.

    This is a temporary Summer position. No benefits provided.

    Saint Mary's College requires all faculty, staff and students to be fully immunized against COVID-19. Medical or religious exemptions may be considered for approval.
