Company Description
At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and
engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the
world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic
constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide
together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues
about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws
of nature. Find out more on https:// home.cern.
Job Description
Introduction
The Engineering Department(EN) pushes back the limits of technology so
that physicists can carry out their research. Within the Electrical
Engineering (EL) group of the EN department, you will join the Cabling
Services Section which is responsible to install copper signal cables,
standardised racks and DC power cables for magnets in the accelerators and
experimental areas. The section provides engineering installation support to
the CERN users, centralises their cabling requests.
Are you an experienced electrical technical engineer looking to take part in
the design, deployment, maintenance and extension of critical DC-power cabling
installations in a large industrial setting? Contribute your skills to the
magnet-powering infrastructures that constitute CERN's accelerator complex.
Take part!
Functions
As an Electrical Technical Engineer you will actively contribute to the
continuous expansion, consolidation and maintenance of CERN's DC-power cabling
installations constituting the infrastructure for the major magnet powering
systems of the various accelerators. This includes taking part in CERN's
current leading project: the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC)
Project.
You will:
Take responsibility for Direct Current (DC) cabling activities within
projects, including both air-cooled and water-cooled power cables.
Contribute to similar activities for Alternating Current (AC), signal
cabling, fibre optics, as required;
Carry out DC-cable design according to the requirements for the DC-
circuits in the accelerators;
Draw-up technical specifications and manage the tendering process as well
as the industrial supply and installation contracts;
Define cabling components, installation methodologies, testing procedures,
naming conventions, and database strategies for data organisation;
Organize DC-power cabling campaigns on the CERN site, requiring close and
frequent on-site interactions with contractors and CERN users from other
groups/departments;
Prepare statistics and forecasting, and follow-up project costs and
financial plans;
Coordinate and train a team of technicians.
