Job Description Summary

The Educational Technologist works in a team-based environment within the Jackson Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), providing consultation and tier 2 technical support to instructors in the appropriate use of learning technologies to support their teaching goals. This includes training and support for the Canvas learning management system (LMS), the Panopto video platform (Huskycast), the Zoom conferencing platform, iClicker student response system, and other campus supported educational technologies. Pedagogical and technical support and training is also provided for classroom- based instructional technology and for various CTL technical workshops.

The Educational Technologist must be able to function with a high-level of independence and possess strong communication, collaboration and project management skills, provide superior customer service, and have a passion for developing and supporting innovative educational solutions for students and instructors.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

1. Provide tier 2 eLearning technical support to instructional personnel in the use of campus supported eLearning tools (Canvas, Panopto, Zoom, iClicker, Turnitin, Gradescope, etc.) including tracking and routing technical issues within the IT ticketing system and/or with third party EdTech support portals. 2. Consult and provide training to instructors on the appropriate pedagogical uses of classroom technologies including cameras, computers, tablets, projectors, audio components, and their related control systems. 3. Consult with instructors to address and improve the accessibility of course instructional materials, including documents, videos, presentations, and HTML content pages within the LMS. 4. Support instructors in the effective use of the Canvas LMS in various teaching modalities (face-to-face, blended, remote, online).

5. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

• Bachelor's degree in Educational Technology, Instructional Technology, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

• Demonstrated technology support experience • Experience working with learning management systems (preferably Canvas) • Experience teaching/training technical information

Desirable Education and/or Experience

• Experience working with university instructors • Experience using helpdesk/issue management software • Experience developing and delivering technical workshops or presentations • Experience developing user documentation, instructor guides, and other learning resources • Experience using audio/video and graphic design software to develop instructional and training materials • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (including Word, PowerPoint and Excel), and Adobe Acrobat Pro DC

Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements)

• Excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills • Able to provide exemplary customer service • Excellent organizational and time management skills • Able to concurrently manage multiple projects, set and reevaluate priorities, meet deadlines, and initiate follow-up action as necessary • Able to quickly learn and utilize a variety of software and systems, including learning management systems, student response solutions, and other eLearning applications used in instruction

• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries and work harmoniously with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities

• Working knowledge of the Canvas LMS • Working knowledge of Panopto video platform or similar • Working knowledge of how to create accessible instructional materials, including documents, presentations and video, including using tools and applying techniques to identify accessibility barriers and remediating them. • Working knowledge of video recording/editing software (Camtasia, or similar) • Ability to work and train in both Windows and Mac environments • Ability to research and test new and emerging instructional technologies • Demonstrated interpersonal skills in an academic or professional environment • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries and work harmoniously with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff
