JOB SUMMARY
The University of Connecticut, College of Agriculture, Health and Natural
Resources Office of Academic Programs (OAP) is seeking applicants for a
full-time Education Program Assistant 1. The College of Agriculture, Health
and Natural Resources (CAHNR) works to ensure a sustainable global future
through research, teaching, and public engagement utilizing agricultural,
health, and environmental sciences. The College of Agriculture, Health and
Natural Resources includes the Ratcliffe Hicks School of Agriculture (RHSA)
where students receive experiential learning towards an associate of applied
science degree. The Academic Programs Office is integral to all undergraduate
educational programs in CAHNR with the goal of enhancing Life Transforming
Education for all students. Under the direction of the Associate Dean for
Academic Programs and Director of the Ratcliffe Hicks School of Agriculture,
the Education Program Assistant 1 position plays an integral role in
supporting CAHNR academic programs, our students, faculty, and staff.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans and executes several aspects of academic events and student
outreach/recruitment activities. Certain events include CAHNR/RHSA Student
Orientation for new first-year and transfer students, career development
events for prospective students, and teaching/professional development
workshops for faculty and staff.
Coordinates program logistics for undergraduate and graduate students,
faculty, and staff, by arranging and securing facilities, virtual and in-
person logistics, schedules, catering arrangements, post-event surveys,
and related items.
Serves as a resource to current and prospective students, staff, faculty,
and the public regarding CAHNR educational resources, services, policies,
and procedures.
Maintains a collection of resource materials, program information, and
promotional materials for student recruitment and general CAHNR/RHSA
information; assists in updating materials as needed.
Assists undergraduate students with academic record changes, processes
necessary academic forms, and maintains accurate academic records.
Connects undergraduate students with OAP academic advisors as needed.
Assists OAP with purchasing, travel, and other related University forms
and procedures.
Assembles data and prepares statistical, summary, and/or historical
reports as needed.
Provides direct support to OAP Academic Advisors by fielding initial
student inquiries. Assists with advisor assignments, and recruitment and
retention programs.
Updates website, student digest, social media, and outgoing recruitment
materials as needed.
Assists external student groups, including high school and community
college groups, with visitation and events held at CAHNR.
Prepares, organizes, and proofs documents for various program and
administrative meetings.
Assists in the preparation of office budgets and monitors expenditures for
events as assigned.
Handles routine inquiries via telephone, email, or in-person and directs
them to the appropriate individual, takes messages as necessary.
Welcomes visitors, guests, and families upon arrival.
Provides support to the College of Agriculture, Health and Natural
Resources Dean's office as needed.
Performs other related duties as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in a related field and up to one year of related
experience in an office setting; or Associate's degree and two to three
years of related experience in an office setting.
The ability to independently solve task-related problems.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills necessary for effective work
relationships.
Demonstrated ability to communicate information effectively.
Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills and attention to
detail.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with individuals of diverse
cultural, social, and educational backgrounds.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Excellent oral, written, and computer communication skills.
Strong knowledge and familiarity with basic software programs - Microsoft
Office with advanced knowledge of Excel and Word and/or website software
such as Aurora WordPress or similar.
Demonstrated experience utilizing Student Information Systems such as
PeopleSoft or similar software.
Social media platform knowledge and skills.
Knowledge of CAHNR or related programs and/or experience with university-
level student services, academic programs, and procedures.
