Job Summary

Dalhousie University identifies and offers innovation in programs, excellence in teaching and pedagogy as one of its key strategic directions. Reporting to the Director of the Centre for Learning and Teaching (CLT), and working within the CLT team, the Educational Developer (Internationalization and Intercultural Competency) will support CLT's programming and development work, with a particular focus including, but not limited to, supporting faculty and departments in the internationalization of curriculum and the enhancement of intercultural communication and intercultural teaching development.

Key Responsibilities

- Work directly with faculty and academic units to support educational innovation and change. This includes designing workshops related to intercultural competency, teaching and learning practices, and internationalization of curriculum as well as discipline-specific workshops to meet immediate teaching and learning needs.

- Design and facilitate developmental programming from conception to evaluation and follow-up, with a particular but not sole focus on critical approaches to international and intercultural education and the application of critical frameworks to intercultural program design and resource development.

- Advise and coach domestic and international faculty on teaching development, specifically as it relates to intercultural competency and communication and internationalization of the curriculum.

- Lead and participate in specialized educational development activities and workshops particularly aimed at faculty, part time academics, and graduate students.

- Conduct confidential consultations with individual faculty with a view to improving the quality of teaching and learning. Advise and coach faculty in the development of their teaching dossiers.

- Engage individually and collaboratively on research related to higher education teaching and learning.

Masters Degree, preferably with an educational background in Intercultural Communication, International Education or related field, with approximately three to five years' professional experience in university teaching and/or educational development (or equivalent combination of training and experience) is required. The completion of, or concurrent registration in, a relevant PhD and/or a certificate in cross-cultural training design preferred. Ideally the successful candidate will have experience in a culturally diverse academic setting and/or have international education experience. Demonstrated engagement in scholarship related to teaching and learning in higher education (through publications and presentations) is required. Must have proven knowledge of intercultural communication models and theories, and their application to teaching and resource development is required.
