DUTIES

Thompson Rivers University, Open Learning (TRU-OL) is looking for a qualified content expert/curriculum developer to develop EDUC 5131 : Managing Multiple Systems: Policy and Practices:

Students are introduced to the theoretical and practical frameworks for developing professional communication, conflict resolution, and advocacy skills, which are necessary when working with families, government, community agencies and service providers. Legislation, administrative policy, theoretical frameworks of effective professional communication and effective practices are reviewed along with current and critical issues surrounding inclusive and special education.

Course Development Process:

The content expert/curriculum developer will work under the guidance of an instructional designer, and in collaboration with the course development team, to provide the following:

1. Input into the planning phase, including the development of a detailed blueprint or course framework that includes relevant learning outcomes and mapping out course activities, assessments and updated resources.

2. Development of content, learning activities and authentic assessments to ensure that they are relevant and appropriate for an online paced course.

TRU-OL uses a collaborative approach to course development that involves interactive planning meetings and review sessions as needed.

The content expert/curriculum developer is expected to make effective use of any prescribed resources identified (ideally electronic resources, including Open Educational Resources (OERs), TRU's e-Library collection and article databases), and other materials and media as appropriate. TRU respects intellectual property laws and expects curriculum developers to accurately cite sources and identify material that may require copyright clearance.

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will be selected on the basis of the following criteria:

  • PhD or Doctorate in Education or a related field is required.
  • Demonstration of current and ongoing engagement in the course subject matter through research and/or the scholarship of teaching, including the dissemination of outcomes in appropriate academic venues is required.
  • Three (3) years of full time or equivalent hours teaching in K-12 settings is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods (TRC CA 62) is required.
  • Proven skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect (TRC CA 63) is required.
  • Teaching excellence, including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA 10) is required.

  • Proven course development skills in a face-to-face or distance environment is strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to write in a clear and consistent style with grammatical accuracy is required.
  • The ability to meet deadlines is required.
  • The ability to work in a collaborative and consultative manner is required.
  • Experience or education in online course development or online facilitation is an asset.
