  • The Institute of Energy and Climate Research - Systems Analysis and Technology Evaluation (IEK-STE) contributes to the transformation towards sustainability and is concerned with the development, analysis and evaluation of energy systems, infrastructures and technologies as well as the interdependence of energy, water and land use. The focus is on interdisciplinary approaches that examine socio-economic aspects of technological development and their interactions with the environment, economy and society. In addition to scientific purposes, the results serve to advise business, politics and society.

    To strengthen our team, we are looking for a researcher in the inter- and transdisciplinary research field on the governance of the sustainability transformation. In a young and highly motivated team, you can expect exciting activities with a special focus on alternative leitmotifs such as sustainable development or circular economy.

    Economist - Governance of the Sustainability Transformation - Efficiency

    and Effectiveness of Environmental and Economic Governance Mechanisms

    Your Job:

  • You will analyse the efficiency and effectiveness of environmental and economic steering mechanisms of the German sustainability strategy with reference to the circular economy, the energy transition and the sustainable use of natural resources

  • You will examine and classify the governance mechanisms of the European Green Deal

  • Furthermore, you will identify factors that influence the implementation of circular economy and sustainability principles

  • You will develop and implement quantitative analyses using methods of empirical economic research, e.g. econometric analyses

  • You are expected to publish your scientific results in renowned journals and present them at national and international conferences

  • Your Profile:

  • An above-average university degree (Master) with a PhD in the field of economics, business mathematics, business informatics or related disciplines

  • Profound knowledge of environmental and resource economics, economic theory, or evolutionary or innovation economics

  • Familiarity with the concepts of sustainable development (e.g. SDGs, Green Economy, Circular Economy, Bioeconomy)

  • Very good knowledge of quantitative methods of empirical economic research (e.g. econometric methods)
