Position Title: Instructor- TRiO Upward Bound (Temporary, Part-Time)

Department: East Campus - TRiO Upward Bound

Rate of Pay: $25.49/hour

Position Summary:

The Pima Community College Upward Bound Program is currently accepting applications for temporary instructors. The Upward Bound Program provides assistance in the areas of academic support and enrichment, ACT preparatory, career exploration, and post-secondary information to identified students. The primary purpose of the federally funded program is to prepare students in grades 9-12 to attend and graduate from college.

The students attend academic classes specifically designed for them during the academic year and during our summer component as well.

The workshop sessions will be during the Summer from 8:30am to 1:50pm.

Upward Bound is seeking to staff the following classes:

  • Math (All levels)
  • Foreign Languages
  • Social Sciences
  • Visual/Digital Art
  • We are especially interested in individuals that have extensive knowledge of standardized tests

    Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for teaching a diverse population of high school students in various non-credit enrichment classes
  • Prepare instructional materials, lesson plans, and classroom presentations
  • Develop, review, and revise curriculum
  • Assess, evaluate, and document students' skills and progress
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation
  • Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related area and
  • Two years of related instructing experience
  • or

  • Candidates who possess similar minimum objective qualifications should describe in detail the education and work experience you regard as establishing the equivalency
  • The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Instructional principles and methods
  • Curriculum development
  • Materials evaluation and selection
  • Non-traditional, student-centered approaches to instruction
  • Career and academic development principles
  • Instruct and evaluate students in an enrichment setting
  • Develop and implement curricula and lesson plans
  • Maintain cohesive, multi-level group dynamics
  • Adapt instruction and programming to meet student needs
  • Communicate and cooperate with students, coworkers, and the general public
  • Physical Requirements:

    Positions in this class typically require: talking, hearing, seeing, repetitive motions, and fine finger movements – using the fingers to manipulate/handle objects such as typing, sorting papers, activating buttons, or sorting/separating small parts.

    Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

    Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long periods or moving from one work site to another.
