How will you contribute?

You will work within the EH group and further develop existing relevant complex 3D in vitro models. Your main tasks will be the exploration in how existing microscopy techniques can be applied to better understand the results observed in complex in vitro models. To this end the successful candidate will contribute to the hazard assessment of chemicals using the models applying the available in vitro models. The candidate will also contribute to the further development, pre-validation and application of new in vitro models with a focus on pulmonary toxicity.

You will contribute to an externally financed project “TuLi - Implementation of a multi-OMICs workflow to derive human reference points and health-based guidance values (HBGVs) from quantitative in vitro data” by:

  • Conducting systematic literature reviews.
  • Identifying new concepts and proposals for cell models.
  • Developing strategies to combine various organs in in vitro models.
  • Experimenting in the TuLi project under the supervision and mentorship of more senior staff.
  • Analysing experimental results to validate developments.
  • Managing the daily research activities allowing the smooth progress of the PhD project.
  • Collaborating with other researchers to promote interdisciplinary activities.
  • Assisting in the preparation of reports and presentations.
  • Making presentations at workshops with guidance and prior internal review.
  • Participating in conferences and workshops.
  • Disseminating and publishing research results in top-ranked scientific journals and conferences.
  • Contributing to the valorisation of RDI results.

    You have a MSc in biology, molecular biology, cell biology, toxicology or similar and you should have done a MSc thesis in the field of cell culture. You should possess expertise in cell culture, molecular biology, and an interest in microscopy techniques. Valuable experience would include 3D in vitro models, handling of nanomaterials and chemicals and basic cell toxicology.
