Description Your tasks and responsibilities:
Misuse of highly potent opioids such as fentanyl and its derivatives (e.g.
carfentanyl) became an increasing risk for individuals and public health in
recent years. In fact, in 2019-20 more than 500,000 individuals died from
opioid overdose in the USA alone. Despite this dramatically increasing health
risk, no effective therapy is available.
The candidate assigned to this position will have the unique opportunity to
evaluate and analyze newly generated antibodies raised against fentanyl or its
derivatives with regard to their ability to neutralize opioid binding to their
receptors in vitro. Further, the candidate will analyze signaling pathways
induced by opioids in various cell lines endogenously expressing opioid
The position will be located at the LMU Munich and is part of a close
interdisciplinary cooperation between the Bundeswehr Institute of Pharmacology
and Toxicology (Munich), the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ,
Heidelberg) and the Walther Straub Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology
Your tasks include the following:
Establish a radio-ligand binding assay in order to analyze the inhibitory
effects of antibodies on fentanyl-receptor binding. Thus, the unrestricted
willingness to work with radio chemicals is necessary.
Culture eukaryotic cells and analyze intracellular signaling pathways by
cell biological, biochemical and molecular biochemical methods.
Determine and analyze pharmacological parameters such KD or EC50 Values.
Acquire independently in deep knowledge of the relevant literature.
Generate large datasets in well-defined time lines.
Regularly present her/his data in meetings with the co-operation partners
or institute meeting in English language.
The candidate must have
A master's degree in natural sciences (biology, chemistry, biochemistry,
Strong communication skills, and to be able to work both independently and

First experiences with the handling of radio chemicals.
Hand on skills in cell culture.
First experiences in the analysis of signaling induced by transmembrane, G
protein-coupled or even opioid receptors.
