Description

#HEJ Reporting to an Associate Dean (or the Dean, Department Chair, Doctoral Director) of the relevant College, a Professor teaches and engages students within a college but also teaches outside of the college when assigned. The position is critical to the success of the institution by providing a quality education for the students and ensuring their successful persistence towards the completion of their degree plan or program. The Professor maintains and enhances curriculum, engages in scholarly activities and actively participates in University and Community Service, including academic committees and dissertation committees. A Professor is a full-time faculty member.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

I. Instruction and Engagement

  • Teach an equivalent of 225 doctoral per academic year

  • Respond to and resolve student academic questions, complaints and concerns in a timely manner

  • Provide meaningful student feedback focused on learning outcomes including responding to student e-mail within 24 hours during the business week and grading of submitted student assignments within 72 hours during the business week

  • Engage students in the course material and promote and undertake a variety of student persistence/retention measures

  • Teach in a doctoral program if requested by the Dean

  • Serve as Chair or member of dissertation committee(s) if requested by the Dean

  • Based on college needs as determined by the Dean, Professors may earn assigned time (a reduction in teaching load) for performing college or other duties for a period of time (e.g., a session or a quarter)

  • As determined by the Dean, assigned time activities may include special projects (but not standard curriculum development or other regular Professor duties)

  • Assigned time may be available for chairing doctoral dissertation committees, with a time limit, as determined by the Dean.

  • II. Curriculum Activity

  • Provide feedback for curriculum and course enhancement

  • Enhance and maintain existing courses

  • Develop courses in doctoral programs as requested

  • Develop new courses when requested by the Dean

  • Develop new academic concentrations or programs when requested by the Dean.

  • Contribute to assessment activities and reports required to meet WASC standards

  • III. Service

  • Serve on academic governance committees as a voting member, including as a chair

  • Participate on University, College, and Program cross-functional teams and committees

  • Contribute to continuous learning and improvement activities

  • Attend Program, College and University meetings, Commencement, and the annual Faculty Retreat.

  • IV. Scholarly and Professional Activities (perform several of the following activities)

  • Guide student research and scholarly activity

  • Publish in Peer Reviewed Journals

  • Publication in Peer Reviewed Conference Proceedings

  • Other intellectual contributions

  • Books

  • Book Chapters

  • Papers presented at conferences

  • Journal and Conference Reviewer

  • Clinical Research/Action Research Consulting

  • Research and/or publishing that promotes practice

  • Attendance at Professional Meetings, Workshops and Seminars

  • Continuing Education and Professional Education/Licensing

  • Membership in Professional Societies.

  • V. Other duties as assigned by the Dean (or Associate Dean)

  • Proven ability to inspire and engage students by delivering the highest quality instruction and support

  • Ability to demonstrate academic rigor and fairness in grading

  • Ability to provide constructive feedback

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with ability to create and sustain a collegial, collaborative, team-oriented environment

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with ability to formulate feasible and logical solutions on issues such as student engagement and retention

  • Ability to work independently and in virtual teams.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products with ability to quickly learn new technologies and software

  • Education and Experience: Minimum

  • Doctor of Education

  • Successful graduate-level teaching experience in a blended or fully online environment.

  • Demonstrated experience in research and knowledge of current trends in the discipline.

  • Experience in working with doctoral students through the entire research process, including defense.

  • Teaching working adults

  • Developing academic curriculum
