Doctoral position: Human-AI Teaming in Healthcare and Aviation

The team of researchers at the Chair of Work and Organizational Psychology
(Prof. Gudela Grote) strive to advance theory on the impact of artificial
intelligence / machine-learning-based technologies (AI) on team
collaboration (Human-AI Teaming) and to develop viable and future-oriented
solutions for practice.
In this position, you will collaborate closely with other researchers and our
industry partners in healthcare and aviation, two high-risk industries where
the careful consideration of the effects of human-AI teaming is particularly
important. The research undertaken in this position is part of the National
Research Program on Digital Transformation (NRP77) https: // www. nfp77.ch/en/,
a funding program that promotes impactful research with high visibility in
both the scientific community and in practice.
More specifically, you will have the unique opportunity to work with two large
data sets that have been collected as part of the ongoing program in
healthcare already (survey and team interaction data on the cognitive,
affective, and behavioral underpinnings of human-AI teaming). Additionally,
you will be able to develop your own research questions on the topic of human-
AI teaming in other high-risk environments such as aviation.
We are looking for…
a team player with the ability to also work independently,
with an above average master's degree in (organizational / social /
cognitive) psychology or related subjects,
with a strong sense of curiosity and passion about the topic,
with a solid knowledge of empirical research, ideally with experience in
both qualitative and quantitative methods (particularly in field
experiments and interaction analysis),
with knowledge of statistics and statistical software programs such as
Stata, SPSS, or R,
stamina and excellent organizational / project management skills,
excellent communications skills in English (to write scientific papers
and to present at international conferences),
good communication skills in German (mainly to analyze the data and
communicate with industry partners)
motivation in creating impact not only in the scientific but also in the

AI teaming, within a high-visibility, high-impact research program, and at

NRP77 knowledge transfer activities.
We offer flexibility regarding the starting date (ideally Summer 2022). The
position is initially funded for one year, with the view to fund a maximum of
four years to finish a PhD at the ETH Zürich.
