Your Role...

The candidate's tasks include the following:

  • Conduct excellent research in the field of graph representation learning
  • Communicate research results in international conferences and journals
  • Work constructively towards collectively defined research goals within a project
  • Write a doctoral dissertation in Computer Science
  • Assist in teaching activities
  • Co-supervise Master and/or Bachelor students
  • The successful candidate will contribute to the interdisciplinary research project “Reconstructing Gene Regulatory Networks with Neural Relational Inference”, funded by Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS) at the university. The project aims to devise data-driven deep learning methods for inferring gene regulatory networks with high accuracy from single-cell gene expression data. In the project, the successful candidate will work closely with researchers from the Department of Life Sciences and Medicine, and she/he will focus on designing and implementing network inference methods.

    The successful candidate will be part of the Security and Trust of Software Systems group (SaToSS) at the Department of Computer Science, and she/he will be officially supervised by Dr. Jun Pang. For more information on the SaToSS research group, see: https: // satoss.uni.lu/

    What we expect from you…
  • A master degree in computer science, mathematics, or a related field
  • A strong mathematical background, and strong programming skills
  • Knowledge about deep learning models, and experience in machine learning on graphs (e.g., graph neural networks) will be considered as an advantage
  • Interest in biological networks or background in biology or single-cell data would be an asset
  • A proven interest in interdisciplinary research
  • Self-motivated, strong commitment, and ability to work in a team
  • Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English are mandatory

  • Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract 36 Month - extendable up to 48 months if required
