Position Description:

University of Iowa Stead Family Department of Pediatrics seeks a Director for the Division of Pediatric Cardiology. The Department will seek appointment to the Children's Miracle Network Professorship of Pediatric Cardiology. Appointment rank may be at either the tenure track or clinical (non-tenure) track at the Associate Professor or Professor level consistent with clinical experience and research interest. The Director will lead the division's clinical and educational services as well as provide leadership to our growing Pediatric Cardiology Unit. The Director will benefit from institutional resources and will have the opportunity to expand both the clinical and interdisciplinary research program.

The Division of Cardiology at the University of Iowa Stead Family Department of Pediatrics provides compassionate, family-centered, and state-of-the-art delivery of care to children and young adults with congenital and acquired heart disease. Patients are followed through the transition to adulthood. Dedicated staff have expertise in acquired heart diseases such as cardiomyopathies, cardiac arrhythmias, blood lipid disorders, congenital heart disease, cardiac dysfunction in malignancy, and cardiac implications associated with pediatric obesity. The division provides the only expertise for electrophysiology, diagnostic, interventional and transplant services for children and youth in the state of Iowa. Skilled surgical support and exceptional critical care postoperative support has outcomes that have excellent results in national databases. The division has a multi-purpose diagnostic and interventional procedure lab which is constantly expanding and including state-of-the-art technologies.

The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine is one of the nation's top medical schools. It is ranked No. 41 in research in the 2023 U.S. News & World Report listing of “Best Graduate Schools,” and it is ranked No. 16 in National Institutes of Health funding among public institutions by the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research. The UI Stead Family Department of Pediatrics is currently ranked No. 25 in NIH funding among all public pediatric departments nationwide.

The UI Stead Family Department of Pediatrics comprises the medical staff of UI Stead Family Children's Hospital, Iowa's only nationally ranked children's hospital and home to the state's only accredited Level 1 Regional Resource Pediatric Trauma Center. The ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program at UI Stead Family Children's Hospital trains 47 pediatric resident physicians. For its 2022-23 edition of “Best Children's Hospitals,” U.S. News & World Report ranked UI Stead Family Children's Hospital in seven pediatric specialties: neonatology, pediatric diabetes and endocrinology, pediatric hematology-oncology, pediatric nephrology, pediatric neurology and neurosurgery, pediatric orthopedics, and pediatric pulmonology.

Education Requirement:

Must hold an MD/DO degree, or equivalent

Required Qualifications:

Board certified Pediatrics, or equivalent

Board certified in Pediatric Cardiology or equivalent

License or eligible for licensure in the State of Iowa

Demonstrated commitment to promoting a diverse, equitable and inclusive work environment

Desirable Qualifications:

5 or more years of experience in an academic health system

Strength in teaching and scholarly pursuits

Ability to develop and implement clinical programs

Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills

It is highly desired that tenure track candidates have a demonstrated history of current externally funded scholarly activity including NIH funding
