Job Summary

The Director is responsible for the overall administration, coordination, and supervision of the Upward Bound Program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Administer and manage the Upward Bound Program.
  • Supervise the development of individualized service plans and the implementation of college, career, financial aid, and economic literacy services/programming for low-income and disadvantaged students. Interview and hire all Project Advisors and supportive staff (Administrative Assistants, Tutors, Instructors, etc.).
  • Develop budget and monitor Project expenditures.
  • Ensure Project staff adhere to the assigned Project's plan of operation, regulations, and related policies and procedures in order to meet individual Project objectives.
  • Collect and analyze data and conduct Internal Project evaluations (formative and summative). Prepare internal and external reports including the Department of Education Annual Performance Report, grant continuation documents, other departmental reports.
  • Ensure adherence to applicable federal, state, local and university rules and regulations.
  • Provide professional leadership and establish effective working relationships with other departments on campus, the community and target schools.
  • Other functions as assigned.
  • Finalists will be asked to give a fifteen minute presentation on a relevant topic to be determined.

    Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in counseling, education, public administration or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Two-three (2-3) years experience in the areas of staff supervision, budget management, program development and evaluation, reporting and compliance with federal regulations or the equivalent experience.
  • This is a leadership position that requires demonstrated organizational skills and ability to work effectively with high school students, parents and the educational community at large. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Three-five years (3-5) years of experience with federal TRIO programs, academic support programs, or similar programs for disadvantaged students.
  • Professional or personal experience in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting Project participants.
