Job Description
Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) is currently the fourth largest
of NC. Community College System's 58 institutions. On our six campuses and
through our online offerings, we annually serve approximately 27,500 students,

Teaching faculty at Guilford Technical Community College are responsible for
supporting student success by creating an optimum learning environment,
responding to student needs, managing effective instructional activities,
developing curriculum courses, modeling employability skills, demonstrating
professionalism, developing cooperative work relationships with other faculty
and staff, supporting college administrative requirements, and maintaining
competency in their instructional field. He/she will be responsible for
quality instruction and for effective participation and interest in the total
affairs of the college.
Under general supervision, this individual will develop/revise, prepare and
teach both technical and non-technical FAME/Advanced Manufacturing Technician
courses and facilitate and coach non-credit AMT activities within the program,
while caring for and maintaining the FAME Technical Center and laboratory
facilities. Faculty will also be responsible for advising students and
collaborating with industry partners to ensure relevancy of the curriculum and
provide necessary training and education. The faculty member must possess the
knowledge, skills and experience to provide effective instruction in advanced
manufacturing topics related to mechatronics engineering technology.
Duties/Functions
Program Director Duties
Provides leadership and management to the overall FAME Advanced
Manufacturing Technician (AMT) program credit and non-credit curriculum
development/review including ensuring establishment of effective student
learning outcomes and related assessment methods.
Develops class and activity schedules and faculty assignments in
coordination with the Dean and area faculty.
Supports FAME Advanced Manufacturing Technician students through both the
academic and non-academic program ensuring retention and graduation.
Provides oversight of program budgets and inventory for all supplies and
equipment.
Participates in the college's hiring process; orients new full and part
time faculty .
Participates in providing evaluative feedback to faculty/staff regarding
job performance.
Mentors part-time faculty to ensure academic quality and consistency.
Participates in required professional development for self and staff to
ensure continued program relevancy.
Maintains knowledge of current industry standards by developing
relationships with industry leaders, experts and companies.
Continuously evaluate national, regional and local workforce trends in the
Advanced Manufacturing industry to ensure curricular relevancy.
Assumes direct instructional responsibility for components of the Advanced
Manufacturing Technician curriculum in accordance with established
college guidelines.
Coordinates outreach and develops/maintains relationships with industry-
related personnel and employers to promote the advancement of industry
employment for graduates.
Maintains knowledge of current FAME standards and requirements by
establishing a relationship with The Manufacturing Institute/FAME USA and
staying current on all program aspects.
All other duties as assigned by senior administration.
Teaching
Prepare & teach departmental courses to include:
developing learner centered lesson plans
employing teaching strategies & instructional materials for different
learning styles
incorporating, as pedagogically appropriate, current technology in
classroom, distance learning and laboratory environments
creating and modeling a quality learning environment that supports a
diverse student population
preparing, distributing and utilizing instructional support materials,
including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media and
other devices as appropriate
updating and revising curriculum to maintain currency
developing new courses as needed to support the instructional mission
participating in the development and review of course and program/general
education outcomes as appropriate
developing, conducting and documenting appropriate assessment of student
learning in outcomes courses and programs/general education as appropriate
Professional Development
Maintain a professional status that supports the instructional mission by:
participating in professional development activities to maintain currency
in field; maintaining current credentials or licensures as required by
program or accreditation
participating in professional development opportunities to advance
teaching skills and strategies
Administration
Provide daily & ongoing oversight of facilities, equipment and student records
to include:
maintaining classroom and laboratory spaces including upkeep of assigned
equipment
providing for the security of facilities, equipment and instructional
materials and maintaining safe working conditions
maintaining student records (e.g., grades and attendance) in accordance
with established deadlines using a variety of technology-based programs
(e.g., Colleague, WebAdvisor, Moodle)
complying with all applicable college, state and federal rules and
regulations
Student Support
Provide an environment conducive to student success to include:
conducting recruiting activities
providing academic advising
promoting retention/persistence by assisting students to develop
strategies for success
assisting students with the registration and graduation process
referring students to campus and community resources when appropriate
maintain student records
College Service
Support college-wide endeavors to include:
collaboration with faculty and staff from other divisions/departments to
promote communication, coordinate schedules and support student success
serving on department, division and college committees
participating in GTCC institutional initiatives
collaborating with educational partners, business/industry and/or external
agencies as appropriate to promote the instructional mission of GTCC
supporting collegiality and teaching excellence by actively participating
in the professional development of new and veteran faculty (e.g.,
mentoring and peer observation)
participating in extracurricular student activities/clubs
attending college professional development sessions,
college/division/department meetings, graduation and convocation, as
required
demonstrate and model the College's employability skills: adaptability,
communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility and
teamwork.

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Control Systems
Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology or
a related field from a regionally accredited institution
Documented industry training in automation equipment (e.g., Allen
Bradley, Siemens, Fanuc)
Industry recognized mechatronics certifications or the ability to attain
them within six months of hire (e.g., Allen Bradley, Siemens, Fanuc)
Education Preferred
Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Control Systems Engineering,
Mechatronics Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology or a related
field from a regionally accredited institution
Siemen's Mechatronics and/or Mechatronics Instructor Certifications or the
ability to attain them within one year of hire
Experience Required
3 years of relevant industry experience or the equivalent (e.g., military
technology)
Working knowledge of programmable logic controls, mechanical systems,
electronics, pneumatics and hydraulics, and robotics.
Teaching and/or industry training experience in mechatronics topics in any
of the following formats: teaching courses, training sessions, conducting
professional development workshops, and/or other continuing education
seminars
Experience Preferred
Greater than 3 years of relevant industry experience or the equivalent
(e.g., military technology)
Post-secondary or secondary teaching experience
Experience with the operation of industrial robotic equipment (i.e.,
Fanuc) and/or systems integration
Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes
Experience with distance learning and/or alternate instructional delivery
systems
