The Director will be a creative and high-level thinker, skilled communicator, strategist, and visible force for rural and economic development issues on campus. The Director will develop key relationships, both formally and informally, across the university, and work closely with other university leaders to collaboratively develop and implement a shared strategic vision across a complex institution to drive organizational change, engagement and partnership development. In addition, the position holder will hold a highly visible public role for the university and advance UVM relationships with key stakeholders and constituencies throughout Vermont and the region.
As a leader, the office holder will broaden and develop UVM's land grant mission in collaboration with UVM leadership, and oversee, directly or indirectly, new economic and workforce development initiatives, projects and programs.
The Director of the Office of Engagement & Head of the Institute for Rural Partnerships will report directly to the Vice President for Research.
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Masters Degree in a related field or considerable experience in rural economic and community development. Seven to ten years management experience required.
The desired candidate will possess a background in promoting community and economic development, including familiarity with any or all of the following specific areas:
· PhD in related field
· regenerative agriculture,
· rural public transportation and housing,
· rural infrastructure,
· lake and forest ecosystem resiliency,
· telehealth-remote health delivery
· and/or the development of innovative policy and governance strategies that optimize broad participation and ownership or community solutions,
Some light travel is required.
