Internal Search—College of Arts & Sciences

ETSU seeks a highly resourceful individual with excellent interpersonal skills to direct and lead its Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies program. This person will supervise, teach, develop courses, assess results, conduct research, recruit students, and expand this program in order to promote its cornerstone values. The director will be responsible for the daily operation of the program.

Responsibilities will require:

o Leadership and mentoring of faculty,

o Administrative expertise to include vision, long-term and short-term planning, decision-making, and coordination of instruction.

As an administrative and academic officer of the program, the director will have primary authority and responsibility for the delivery of academic programming in accordance with departmental, college, and university strategic plans; budgeting, and resource management. As a member of the College administration, the director will develop programming, partner with other units on campus, and serve as a liaison between campus and the community.

This position will report to the Associate Dean for Community Relations & Outreach for the College of Arts and Sciences. The selected faculty member will remain on a 9-month contract and be compensated via a stipend.

All positions at East Tennessee State University are contingent upon sufficient funding.

  • Ability to comprehend and prepare data analysis reports and presentations.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from underrepresented groups with understanding and sensitivity to experiences of individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience creating and maintaining collaborative working relationships with administrators, faculty, staff, and external partners.
  • A track record of creating collaborative programming and interdepartmental partnerships.
  • Required Qualifications

  • Full-time faculty member of the College of Arts and Sciences at ETSU.
  • Terminal degree in humanities, women's studies, gender studies, social sciences or related field.
  • Teaching and/or research record that demonstrates academic mastery of the field.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional scholarship and/or grant writing demonstrating academic mastery of and contributions related to the field (in feminist theory, reproductive health justice and politics, gender identity, intersectionality framework, public policy, class, race, popular culture, and LGBTQ rights, broadly conceived.
  • Course Design and Curriculum Development and/or Program Management Experience.
  • Experience in grant writing.
  • Experience designing and conducting assessments and evaluating outcomes.
  • Rank of Associate or Full Professor.
  • Salary $6,000 per academic year as an extra compensation
