About The Position:

The SUNY Plattsburgh Provost's Office seeks to hire a passionate and creative Director for the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE). The successful candidate will be experienced in providing faculty development opportunities focused on evidence-based best practices in pedagogy in support of student success across more than 70 academic programs, 250 faculty members, and face- to-face, hybrid, and remote teaching modalities. They will provide a vision of the CTE as a critical contributor to the reduction of equity gaps and the increased graduation success for minoritized students. The successful candidate will also possess flexibility and empathy, as well as the ability to contribute positively to faculty morale. There is an expectation that the Director will teach at least one course per year in their field of specialty. As an institution that delivers challenging and high-quality educational experiences to a diverse group of learners, the successful candidate also must demonstrate an understanding of and sensitivity to diversity, inclusion, and equity-minded policies, programs and practices.

Required Qualifications:

  • A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university
  • At least five (5) full time years of higher education teaching experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge/experience of evidence-based practices in teaching and learning
  • Publication and/or presentation record relevant to the scholarship of teaching and learning
  • Demonstrated creativity in problem solving to support faculty success in the classroom
  • Evidence of ability to work collaboratively with faculty from a variety of disciplines and academic departments
  • Demonstrated understanding of a wide range of successful teaching approaches, learning theories, and instructional technologies
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated strong personal and professional commitment to social justice
  • Ability to work well with a wide range of personalities and faculty teaching and learning preferences

    The College's 256-acre campus sits on the edge of the city's downtown area. Plattsburgh is home to a variety of arts and cultural venues, including the nearly 100-year-old Strand Theatre. Our active waterfront location features a small town feel combined with the advantages and opportunities of a larger urban center. The Plattsburgh area offers excellent schools, a vast health network and elder care services, along with wide retail offerings. It is an emerging home to microbreweries, wineries, community supported agriculture and more. The campus is within easy traveling distance to Montreal, Quebec; Lake Placid, N.Y.; and Burlington, V.T.
