Bachelor's degree in communications, Journalism, Advertising/Marketing, Public Relations, English, Technical Communications, or related field. Preferred Master's degree in related field. Five years professional experience in a related field. Three years professional experience in higher education preferred. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

Nature & Purpose of Position

Works closely with the Vice President for Enrollment Success and divisional leadership to support the mission and strategic communication goals of the division and Sam Houston State University. Organizes, leads, advises, and implements special projects to optimize enrollment communication. Serves as a liaison to Integrated Marketing and Communications. Monitors and provides quality control over all divisional communications including collaborating with vendors and partners.

Primary Responsibilities

Develops and collaboratively implements large-scale strategic, integrated communication plans for the Division of Enrollment Success as well as high- level, specialized projects to further the mission of the University and the goals of the division and division leadership. Consults and supports effective communication strategies and implementation at all unit levels within the division. Evaluates and adjusts communications tactics on a regular basis to maintain strategic alignment with leadership efforts. Serves as communications advisor to the Vice President of Enrollment Success and Enrollment Success leadership team. Works discreetly on sensitive assignments, exhibits sound editorial judgment, and maintains trust with the highest confidentiality. Works independently as well as in conjunction with members of Enrollment Success leadership team, staff, and campus personnel toward specific goals. Serves as a division liaison for communication with other divisions and the Chief Marketing Officer. Designs, prepares, reviews, curates, revises, and distributes reports, documents, correspondence, newsletters, and publications within the Division of Enrollment Success. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Specifications

Requires the ability to exercise discretion, excellent reasoning, and independent judgment. Requires skill in directing multiple tasks, setting priorities, and organizing operations. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with administration, faculty, staff, and the public. Interprets and applies complex directives, policies, regulations, statutes, and procedures, and/or written guidelines. Must have outstanding written and verbal communication skills, ability to multitask and work well under pressure, strong knowledge of communication practices and techniques, as well as an awareness of and proficiency with communications technologies. Requires strong interpersonal and organizational skills for developing and managing projects and programs involving a variety of audiences (faculty, staff, students, and other stakeholders) both internal and external. Proven success designing and executing marketing and communications strategies and campaigns. Communicates with other University departments, personnel, and other agencies.

This position may be designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).

Up to 20% of this position, over the fiscal year during off-peak periods, may be performed remotely as determined by the supervisor.
