The University of Cambridge is consistently ranked one of the best universities in the world, renowned for its record of discovery and innovation. It has a regional, national, and global reach, attracting the very best and brightest minds.

The opportunity to engage in sport and physical activity is an important part of university life and our focus is on participation at all levels, while also ensuring that those who achieve excellence have the best possible support. Our Strategy for Sport and Physical Activity aims to enable and support the continued pursuit of physical activity and sport at Cambridge, for all, in the best possible facilities, and backed by the most dedicated of professional staff.

We are now seeking to appoint an outstanding individual to the position of Director of Sport. You will:

  • Lead the University's Sports Service and, working in collaboration with the 31 Colleges, 77 University sports clubs and other Divisions, be responsible for the provision and development of sport and physical activity for students, staff and the wider community.

  • Be responsible for the development and implementation of the Sport and Physical Activity strategy and for overseeing the development and management of our extensive sports facilities, ensuring they meet the highest standard.

  • Collaborate with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, from the 31 Colleges to national and international sports organisations, and ensure that the Sports Service continues to generate and reinvest income to sustain and improve its offerings.

  • You will be an established leader in sports and physical activity with a proven record of strategic and financial management. You will bring a deep understanding of the student and national sport, physical activity, and wellbeing landscape, and experience of developing major sports facilities. You will be an outstanding communicator, able to build consensus, forge new partnerships and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders. You will also bring a collaborative and inclusive management style and a focus on developing others.

By joining our vibrant and diverse sporting community at Cambridge, you will have the opportunity to build on our rich history and shape the future of our sports and wellbeing programmes. From elite athletes to those new to sports seeking camaraderie and wellness, your leadership will make a significant impact.
