Position Title Director of Instrumental MusicJob Description
The Director of Instrumental Music is responsible for teaching and directing the IWCC cocurricular band performances and rehearsals, including Marching Band, Instrumental Jazz Band, Concert Band, and Pep Band. Additionally, the right person for this role should demonstrate musical content knowledge, planning, and preparation for instruction, the ability to monitor student learning, and classroom management skills. The perfect candidate for this role is student-centered and should foster community among students in a classroom environment.

The Director of Instrumental Music is responsible for all recruiting activities related to the band, including data tracking, high school outreach, and planning and overseeing band events. The Director of Instrumental Music needs to effectively develop and execute recruiting plans to meet specific targets and goals. Additionally, this role advises all students about instrumental ensemble participation.
This role plans and directs band performances such as concerts and game performances. The Director of Instrumental Music collaborates with other members of the department for musical theater events.
The right person for this role is outgoing, motivated, highly organized, have good follow-through, and is a self-starter who can work well autonomously but also as a team player when required for department events. Additionally, we are looking for someone who uses their strong interpersonal and communication skills to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders. This person should be social media savvy and maintain contact with the Music Department Chair and Dean of Communication/Fine Arts about general happenings of the bands.
Preferred Qualifications Physical Demands
Ability to occasionally lift 10 pounds, ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, and use hands to operate a computer keyboard, telephone, and other basic office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, and use a phone. Reading, writing, calculating, social interaction skills, reasoning/analysis, and ability to work with minimal supervision, high degree of problem-solving, organizational skills with the teaching and learning process, and high level of interpersonal skills is preferred. Work is routinely performed in a classroom environment and maintains a classroom and lab environment, which is conducive to student learning. Frequent contact with internal and external customers is required. Instructors are responsible for obtaining and maintaining reliable compatible computer hardware and software.
