    The Director of Student Engagement and Community Outreach in the Honors College at Marshall University is a member of a team of outstanding professionals committed to cultivating a diverse and collaborative community of thought and practice among our students, faculty, and public partners. The Program Manager is a critical team member for coordinating experiential learning and co-curricular opportunities for honors students and liaising with other student support offices on campus and external community groups.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal skills used in interacting with students, public officials, and staff at all levels courteously and effectively.
  • Ability to initiate and maintain professional relationships with diverse stakeholder groups and demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of diverse student populations, including low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented students.
  • Robust personal initiative, time, and project management skills with an attention to detail and organization with the ability to exercise practical independent judgment.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication/presentation skills and ability to create marketing and social media content.
  • Ability to effectively plan, organize, prioritize, and execute complicated and continuing assignments.

  • Ability to use student information systems and proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint.
  • Duties

  • Engage with university and community partners to foster ongoing collaborations and develop programs that support the college's and university's strategic enrollment management efforts, ranging from outreach and marketing for prospective students to training and support materials and strategies for current students.
  • Cultivate relationships and regularly collaborate with multiple units on campus, including the offices of Recruitment, Intercultural and Student Affairs, Housing and Residence Life, and Study Abroad to promote cross- campus cooperation, mutual understanding of current policies and procedures, and student personal development and professional success.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate regular student-focused services and programs within the Honors College designed to build community and provide experiential learning opportunities for honors students.
  • Assist in the development and administration of the Honors Co-Curricular Portfolio initiative.
  • Recruit, select, and assist in training students to serve as Honors College Student Ambassadors and manage logistics to ensure a successful program.
  • Create and maintain relationships with community partners for honors internships and other experiential learning opportunities while supporting honors students to engage in opportunities.
  • Perform research relevant to assigned areas of responsibility, develop and maintain various databases to track progress, and present reports to stakeholders while making continuous program improvements.
  • Serve as advisor to the Honors College Student Association and the Honors Oracle newsletter.
  • Help coordinate planning and execution of special engagements, including academic ceremonies such as the Honors Convocation.
  • Maintain membership and actively participate in professional development opportunities offered through Marshall University and state, regional, and national organizations.
  • Perform other assigned duties that support the Honors College's mission.

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Experience

  • Work with students (at different educational levels) in a variety of curricular and co-curricular settings.
  • Educational program development, planning, and delivery.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in education, leadership, student support services or related fields.
  • Experience

  • Experience in student affairs administration, student programming, orientation, or related field.
  • Experience working with CRM or similar database management systems.
