Job Summary: Responsible for overall administrative oversight of the Visualization and Digital Multimedia Center of Excellence for outreach services and in support of relevant academic programs. Engage with external stakeholders and foster relationships with the film industry. Coordinate the pipeline of continual film-related projects related to topics and issues relevant to people living in coastal and maritime settings. This position will play a key role in expanding the reach and impact of Coastal USM's Media and Entertainment Arts (Film) program and ensuring its alignment with industry trends and practices.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Documentary production and direction.
  • Seek, secure, and administer external funding for the Center's initiatives.
  • Cultivate and execute a comprehensive outreach plan to promote outreach and the Media and Entertainment Arts (Film) program to a broad network of stakeholders.
  • Establish and lead an engaged network of professional partners, including but not limited to industry leaders and subject matter experts, government officials, and community college partners to inform outreach and coordination of the pipeline of film-related ecosystem.
  • Advise the Media and Entertainment Arts (Film) curriculum to remain relevant and responsive, and mentor experiential learning moments for students.
  • Organize and coordinate an annual film festival to bring together industry professionals, faculty, students and others to create awareness and engage the community.
  • Develop proposals, budgets, and marketing materials to promote outreach and programmatic growth with the goal of incorporating a self-sustaining model for continued programming.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of the School of Coastal Resilience and Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs, Coastal USM.
  • Minimum Qualifications:

    Master's degree in film studies, marketing, public relations, strategic communications, or related field from an accredited college or university with a minimum of five years' experience in film-related endeavors. Minimum of three years leadership activity in outreach experience. Minimum one year experience teaching.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  • Proven experience in outreach or community engagement, preferably in the field of film studies or related arts disciplines.
  • Strong knowledge of the film industry, including trends, emerging technologies, and key players.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal leadership skills to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to develop and execute outreach strategies and initiatives including the ability to form team-based strategies with constituent groups.
  • Experienced in writing and administering grant-related or comparable projects.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.
  • Familiarity with marketing and promotional techniques.
  • Proficiency in using digital tools and platforms for outreach purposes.
  • Passion for film and a commitment to promoting film education.
  • Knowledge of graphic design software.
  • Understands the interconnection of telling stories through film, particularly for people living and interacting with the ocean and coasts.
  • Leverages professional expertise and University knowledge to assess areas of opportunity, identify solutions and effectively execute the plan. Self- motivated and accountable for results.
  • Demonstrates the ability to deliver accurate, concise, and quality communication (verbal and written) in a timely manner. Encourages an open exchange of ideas and differing perspectives.
  • Demonstrates an openness and flexibility towards new ideas and concepts and effectively influences or facilitates during times of change. Utilizes candid feedback, knowledge, resources, and opportunities to improve.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Terminal degree in film studies, marketing, public relations, strategic communications or related field from an accredited college or university with seven years' experience in film-related endeavors; five years leadership activity in outreach experience; and three years experience in teaching. Previous experience with securing external funding is ideal.
