The Clinical Research Alliance (CRA) is an Academic Research Organization within UNC SOM that coordinates large multi-center trials generating evidence to advance treatments that serve North Carolinians and beyond. Working with the leading scientific experts at UNC in partnership with the National Institutes of Health and Pharma, and national academic institutions, the CRA provides full-service coordination through pre to post award activities.
Activities within the CRA include proposal management and submission, protocol and CRF development, IRB and FDA submissions, site training and certification, recruitment and enrollment, data capture and management, study monitoring and safety reporting, and study compliance and quality for large scale Phase II IND studies across sites and centers and more.
A SIGN-ON BONUS OF $5,000 IS AVAILABLE FOR THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT OF THIS POSITION PAID AT THE TIME OF HIRE.
The position will work closely with UNC-CH Office of University Counsel to support the activities for the CRA. The Director of Contracts & Affiliations will be responsible for formulating, interpreting, and implementing contracts, policies, and processes to coordinate and conduct human subjects research across multiple institutions and entities. This includes, but is not limited to, research compliance, finance, governance, contracts, strategic policy, regulatory compliance, and general corporate matters. This position is responsible for drafting and reviewing complex, time-sensitive contracts between the SOM CRA and external agencies with guidance from the Senior University Counsel for Medical Affairs, Office of University Counsel and other UNC Administration Offices that oversee contracts and agreements. Frequent interface with internal and external stakeholders, including University research office personnel, faculty investigators, and sponsor representatives is a large component of the position. The position will consult with applicable trial teams and Principal Investigators regarding contractual requirements, liabilities, and risks. The position will also provide alternative solutions to contractual issues that arise in the context of negotiations within established guidelines.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity or professional-level background in sponsored research administration, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution.

Basic analytical ability sufficient to evaluate data, make judgments and recommendations. Ability to independently work through details of a problem to reach a positive solution. Ability to manage competing priorities and projects, using time efficiently and productively; managing competing priorities and projects; prioritizing multiple tasks properly to meet deadlines; recognizing time constraints and adjusting work schedule to address them.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience with UNC administrative systems and platforms that support clinical research. Administrative management experience in a large, diverse clinical-academic setting. Experience in negotiating with industry and government sponsors for coordinating clinical trials. Strong analytical background and highly proficient with Excel. Certified Research Administrator Certification.
