Position Function:
The Marketing and Communications Director is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and evaluating marketing communications strategy, including grants and requests for services for external customers, advertising, promotions, and public relations to support the marketing objectives for the Division of Student Affairs (STA) while adhering to Mississippi State University's (MSU) social media and social brand guidelines. This position is involved in planning and executing efforts across the Division as well as coordinating with the appropriate constituencies to maximize synergies in promoting STA.

Department Profile:
The Student Affairs Marketing & Communications Office strives to offer departments quality services and products while maintaining university brand standards. We also work towards helping the Division uphold its goal of providing effective communication to all stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Oversee all internal and external communications to include creating, editing, approving advertisements, brochures, press releases, print and digital media for Division of STA. 2. Develop comprehensive marketing and communication strategies for Division of STA including print materials, web content, and social media. 3. Manage division-wide system for requests of marketing services. 4. Contribute to the development of comprehensive marketing and communication plans for departments within the Division of STA in collaboration with campus stakeholders including Undergraduate Admissions, MSU Foundation & Alumni Association, among others. 5. Maintain knowledge and working understanding in emerging trends, technologies and best practices in social media, with the ability to articulate clearly to others. 6. Serves as the communications liaison with other units on campus, including the Division of Access, Diversity, and Inclusion and in support of student success efforts on campus. 7. Works proactively to identify and promote the Division of STA news, to include working across the different units on campus to feature students in university-wide publications. 8. Work collaboratively with the MSU Office of Public Affairs to ensure compliance with MSU marketing and communications standards. 9. Works with department heads with the Division of STA to ensure appropriate targeted communications are being posted and highlighted on the website and media outlets. 10. Plan and implement activities & events as needed for the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs including Spirit of State, Random Acts of Kindness Week, and Out-of-State Student Social. 11. Provide coordination and oversight of other marketing & communications professionals and students within the Division of STA. 12. Serve on departmental, divisional, and/or university-wide committees as needed. 13. Performs related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility: Has supervisory responsibility of a full-time Coordinator for Communications, graduate assistants, and student employees.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Required Education: Master's Degree Marketing and Communications; Higher Education Leadership; or related field Minimum Required Experience: 5 years Directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified Substitution allowed for Education: Indicated education is required; no substitutions allowed. Substitution allowed for Experience: When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Ability to prioritize competing demands and to meet deadlines. 2. Knowledge of web-based communication usage and styles. 3. Ability to work collaboratively across broad constituencies.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Occasional and/or light lifting required. Limited exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc., but none to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards where likely result would be cuts, bruises, etc. Work hours may include nights and weekends; frequent interruptions based on changing priorities; involves occasional exposure to demands and pressures from persons other than immediate supervisor. Job frequently requires sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands. Job occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
