Description

The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute at the Fox School of Business operates the 1810 Accelerator. The 1810 Accelerator is a physical space and a yearlong series of programs that provides students across all 17 schools and colleges with the skills, tools, and knowledge to build ideas and launch and grow their ventures.

The ideal candidate for the Director of IEI Programs will be a highly motivated, energetic, results-driven leader who runs the day-to-day operations of the Accelerator within the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute. The Director will report to the Managing Director of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute.

The Director will work with the Managing Director and the Academic Directors to help create a strategic direction for the 1810 Accelerator and oversee and execute all programs that align with the strategic vision and mission of the IEI, to help students, alumni, the TU community think creatively, flexibly, and develop new ideas.

Required Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree in entrepreneurship, innovation, strategy, management, or related discipline with at least five 5 years of demonstrated success in same or related fields. Must have strong familiarity with or experience in a university setting; program management or operations management experience; entrepreneurial experience and familiarity with Philadelphia's business ecosystem, including an established network of contacts with companies and industry groups, investors, entrepreneurs, and technology transfer professionals; and demonstrated experience working with idea stage and early- stage founders.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated passion for innovation and entrepreneurship as drivers of economic activity and creators of jobs.
  • Ability to diagnose venture status and issues. Understand legal, financial, and technology issues and be able to match with the right expert or mentor.
  • Familiarity with design thinking, lean startup, and business model canvas approaches to entrepreneurship.
  • Understanding of experimental design and customer empathy approaches
  • Strong understanding of business models and drivers of success in startups across several verticals
  • Ability to analyze and systematically evaluate ventures, create financial models, conduct market analysis, and strategic planning
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with individuals in various levels, ranging from top executives and university leaders to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Demonstrated computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work nights and/or weekends, as needed.
  • Ability to work with innovative and out-of-the-box thinkers and innovators.
  • Preferred

  • Master's degree in a relevant field
  • Demonstrated success using the above approaches
  • Experience working in an accelerator or familiarity with an accelerator's operations
  • Previous experience founding a startup and/or experience working as a consultant or advisor to startup companies
  • This position is temporarily assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on- campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
