We are now seeking a passionate, ambitious and experienced Communications Director.

In this pivotal role, you will be leading Aalto University's communications, brand and marketing. You are a member of the university's management team and report to the President of Aalto University. We hope you will challenge our thinking and open up new perspectives with your collaborative and development- oriented approach and strong people and organization leadership skills.

The Communications Director leads the communications team with 12 direct reports and over 40 employees. Aalto's communications services is responsible for strategic communications, brand and marketing of the university and its schools. It coordinates and develops university's communications channels; plans, supports and executes communications operations; and is responsible for media relations and strategic events at the university.

We are looking for a passionate, visionary and experienced leader, with –

  • proven track record in leading external and internal communications and digital marketing across multiple channels and stakeholders, with in-depth understanding of social media;
  • demonstrable success in building and nurturing a leading brand;
  • strong experience in crisis and reputation management
  • experience in media relations, and ability to build broad networks and thought leadership with media and various stakeholders;
  • excellent command of written and oral expression, speaking in public, and understanding the importance of events to university;
  • extensive leadership experience in c-level (management team, organisational leadership and financial management);
  • excellent skills in leadership and building collaboration in a matrix organization: high collaboration, negotiation and strategic skills with hands-on approach;
  • understanding the multidimensional operating environment and internationality in terms of community, media and stakeholders;
  • at least a master's degree;
  • international experience and work experience in higher education are considered as assets; and
  • excellent command of English, fluency in Finnish is an advantage.
