The mission of the Division of Student & Academic Affairs is to create solutions for a healthier community by fostering student success. There are 10 functional units within the Division of Student & Academic Affairs: Center for Student Life, Career Readiness Center, Center for Academic Performance, Office of Care and Civility, Registrar, Financial Aid, Testing and Evaluation Services, International Services, Office of Disability Access, and Student Assistance Resource Center.

Position Overview

The Director of Student Life is a mid-manager position which provides supervision, coaching, and mentoring to full-time professional staff members within their area of responsibility. The position coordinates programs, services, and activities in an effort to promote student learning outcomes established within each academic program on campus. The goal of this position is to create opportunities to promote learning, ethical decision making, scholarship, leadership, and a sense of belonging amongst the student body.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and six (6) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Crisis Management expertise in a higher education setting
  • Familiarity with federal and state regulations
  • Preferred Qualifications

    Master's degree in Higher Education or related field. Three years' prior professional experience in residential life, student development, student activities, orientation programs, student leadership programs, or institutional event planning at an institution of higher education.

    Required License / Registration / Certification Work Schedule

    Monday – Friday, 8am-5pm, with occasional evenings or weekends as required for divisional events. Remote work available up to 2 days per week when student events and office traffic allow.

    Job Duties

    o

    Manage budgets for multiple institutional accounts ensuring that institutional and state regulations are followed.

    o

    Hire, supervise, coach, and evaluate 3 full-time staff members.

    o

    Coordinate programming opportunities with the appropriate academic partners in each of the schools/programs to support a co-curricular and collaborative model of program delivery.

    o

    Supervise the planning, execution and assessment for new student transition and retention programs, institutional student events, student organizations, mentorship programs and student success coaching programs.

    o

    Monitors the effectiveness of student organizations and yearlong mentorship programs as they fulfill their mission and purpose and develops plans to foster continuous improvement and growth.

    o

    Serve as Chair of the Student Fee Advisory Committee (State of Texas Compliance Requirement).

    o

    Provide consultation and assistance to faculty, staff, and administration related to the needs of students.

    o

    Advise student leaders in planning, communication, and resource management.

    o

    Manage and develop contracts with external entities for process management software and event-related vendors.

    o

    Accountable for the coordination of institutional events (Commencement, White Coat, and Pre- Clinician Ceremony).
