The position of Director of the Center for Neurodegenerative Disorders for the IUH/IUSM Neurosciences Institute will provide oversight, direction, and vision for growth for clinical care, research, and education. This includes but is not limited to the following:

With the Institute Directors

o Implement the strategic plan for the Center (See attached Specific Milestones and Timelines)

o Provide operational oversight for matters related to the center, e.g.

§ Guidance on space and other physical infrastructure needs

§ Personnel needs

§ Equipment needs and prioritization

o Work with IUSM, IUH and Riley Foundations to advance philanthropic efforts to support Center activities

o Work to enhance innovation and develop/protect intellectual property of Center faculty and staff, along with other Center Directors and Institutes

Enhance Clinical Care Delivery System-Wide

o Develop and mature multidisciplinary care models to maximize care efficiency and optimize outcomes from neurodegenerative disorders

o Provide guidance and oversite of recruiting and retention programs for faculty and staff of multidisciplinary programs

o Promote new treatments and technologies developed within the IUH and IUSM systems.

o Advance public health initiatives and related patient advocacy activities in the area of neurodegenerative disorders

o Enhance the regional and national reputation of the Center

o Act as liaison with IUH quality registries to enhance and maintain quality of care across the system

Provide Directional Oversite and Feedback to NSI on Education and Research

o Work collaboratively with departmental chairs and program directors to ensure high quality education and recruitment of trainees and faculty

o Provide direction to all departments included in the Neurosciences Institute umbrella to maximize multidisciplinary scientific collaboration in neurodegenerative disorders

o Increase the involvement of high school students, undergraduate students, graduate students, advanced practice providers, as well as post-doctoral trainees in the field of neurodegenerative research, particularly from those groups underrepresented in science and medicine.

o Support existing T32s focused on neurodegeneration and apply for additional T32s to further enhance the educational mission.

o Provide direction for current neurobehavioral fellowship and new specialty fellowships and work with fellowship directors to ensure recruitment of high- quality candidates from various disciplines over time.

o Execute strategic plans for neurodegeneration research programs with specific timelines and milestones, focusing on extramural funding development, particularly multi-PI R01s, as well as P and U grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH)

o Collaborate with other institutes and groups across the system and within the region for cross-disciplinary scientific advancement

o Oversee and regularly review research programs and provide guidance and mentorship to investigators

o Act as liaison with national neurodegenerative disease networks and registries and develop scientific questions in conjunction with national data sets

o Collaborate with other research initiatives on campus related to natural history, biology, genomics, and treatment of neurodegenerative disorders.

o Promote outreach to patients and families, advocacy groups, and community, along with population health group/CTSA/Precision Health Initiative, to better understand the needs of the population, provide education, and promote/engage in research, particularly focusing on underrepresented populations.

o Interface with large insurers, payors, and purchasers of healthcare, along with the health care system, to demonstrate differences in cost of care and optimize efficiencies of care for all forms of neurodegenerative disorders

o Promote the conduct of large-scale multi-center interventional trials in neurodegenerative disorders with continuing involvement in clinical research, industry-funded as well as investigator-initiated studies, with focus on expanding involvement of the latter.

Basic Qualifications

o Professor of Neurology or Neuroscience Department

o ABMS-Specialty Board Certification in Primary Specialty if clinician

o Eligible for Appointment as Professor with Tenure

o Other leadership opportunities in Neurology and Institution

o National or International Reputation

§ Track record of advanced research in neurodegenerative disorders and/or

§ Extensive clinical expertise in neurodegenerative disorders and/or

§ Leader in systems of care for neurodegenerative disorders including but not limited to ALS, Parkinson disease, Lewy-body dementia, multi-system atrophies, triplet repeat disorders Doctorate or terminal degree required.
