Primary Purpose of Position
The Digital Marketing Specialist will be responsible for supporting the
technical execution of the engagement marketing strategy across key digital
channels, including email, website, SEO/SEM, digital advertising and other
digital avenues.
Minimum Education/Experience
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and one year of experience related to the area of
assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees
must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
University Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from a four year college or university and at least three years of
program associate experience; or an equivalent combination of training and
experience.
Essential Job Duties
Manage all aspects of email marketing (using Marketing Cloud), including
template construction, list selection/uploads, automations, testing
protocol, execution.
Knowledge of email industry policies and best practices, (example: CAN-
SPAM, CASL (Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation) and European Union's General
Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Accessibility).
Act as project manager coordinating the process for email and e-newsletter
production (setting and adhering to deadlines, copyediting, layout,
deployment).
Continuously strive to be the subject matter expert on digital marketing
best practices and accessibility.
Assist with digital construction and design of feature web stories.
General web support using CMS platforms.
Setup and execution of digital marketing pixel code.
Link tagging support.
Build, test and deploy personalized email marketing campaigns within
Salesforce Marketing Cloud email studio. Setup campaigns and journeys in
Journey Builder and build out dynamic content blocks. Deploy email
campaigns using Email Studio, Interactions, Automations, and Journey
builder.
Develop Content Builder email templates and respective content blocks;
requires strong HTML/CSS, AMPscript, Guide Template Language, Server-Side
JavaScript.
Build relational data models and corresponding data extensions.
Build out elaborate journeys with multiple versions of emails using
variable data and decision splits.
Build complex email automations.
Create reports of email tracking data and deliver internally.
Respond to common business requirements and perform basic administrative
functions within Marketing Cloud with support of the SFMC administrator.
Ensure design and email layout is optimized, renders and functions
correctly across multiple email clients, and is mobile friendly—strong
attention to detail, quality assurance, and visual branding.
Assist in designing and documenting solutions to leverage automation,
dynamic content, data-driven segmentation, and other sophisticated
Salesforce Marketing Cloud capabilities to maximize customer engagement
and response.
Guide email marketing planning and strategy across University departments.
Other Work Responsibilities
Assist with platform configuration, testing strategy, and automated email
projects (trigger development, etc.).
Ability to interpret analytics/trends and make creative suggestions based
on email best practices.
Accurate QC/Proofing of emails before deployment.
Collaborate with University units to produce email creative that is on
strategy, on target, on brand, and consistent with what is currently in
the market.
Stay knowledgeable of UNC Charlotte brand standards and creative best
practices.
Other duties as assigned.
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Bachelor's degree and 3-4 years of experience with a proven track record
of successful email marketing campaigns and data analysis.
Excellent communications and problem solving skills.
Experience using Salesforce Marketing Cloud and/or other email marketing
automation platform.
Knowledge of CMS (content management systems) such as WordPress.
Working knowledge of HTML and CSS.
Experience using Google Analytics (GA4 is a plus) and Google Ads
(search/remarketing).
Knowledge of platform pixel setup.
Knowledge of Google Search and Google Tag Manager a plus.
General SEO and SEM knowledge.
Experience in Google Suite.
Preferred experience using SEM Rush.
Preferred experience with Adobe Creative Cloud.
Salesforce/ExactTarget Marketing Cloud and Pardot or other Marketing
Automation Platform.
Salesforce Marketing Cloud certifications:
Marketing Cloud Email Specialist
Marketing Cloud Consultant
Marketing Cloud Developer
AMPscript, SQL, Server-Side JavaScript, HTML/CSS, Adobe Creative Suite,
and PowerPoint
Responsive email design and coding.
3+ years direct experience building solutions on the SFMC platform: Cloud
Pages, Smart Forms, Web Collect, Collect Tracking, Email Studio, Social
Studio, Journey Builder.
4+ years producing emails in an agency or in-house creative group.
Knowledgeable in all aspects of email marketing and systems, including
template configuration and management, dynamic content, queries for data
extensions, and content builder.
Familiarity in Marketing Cloud Connector, data extensions, integration
with external systems (API).
Online project-management software knowledge; familiarity with Monday.com
a plus.
UX principles.
