    The Operations Portfolio enables an integrated, enterprise-wide delivery for best practice student and staff experiences.

    The Portfolio incorporates the following business units: Enterprise Projects and Business Performance (EPBP), Communications, People, Information and Technology Services (ITS), Office of the Chief Operating Officer, Procurement and Vietnam Operations.

    The Portfolio houses significant drivers and delivery components across the staff and student journeys and enables the overall experience for both groups. The Portfolio is integral in bringing the RMIT strategy to life, across the globe. Each of these functions supports the global operations of the University both directly as well as through its controlled entities.

    The Information Technology Services (ITS) function, provides RMIT University with current and emerging Technology systems and services.     The Role

    The Digital Environment Engineer resides within the DevSecOps Team and assists with the construction management of production and non-production environments on RMIT's AWS and Azure cloud environments.

    Reporting to the Digital Environment Manager and working with the Cloud Engineering, DevSecOps, and delivery teams, the Digital Environment Engineer will ensure that environments necessary for the development, testing of an enterprise-wide run of deployments and releases are provisioned and refreshed in a timely manner. In doing so, they will assist in the planning, development, and implementation solutions to automate and speed up activities within their remit in order to promote the wider DevSecOps philosophy under which ITS is operating.

    Day to day activities the Digital Environment Engineer will perform include, but are not limited to:

  • The provision of non-production and production environments

  • The refresh of these environments (where applicable) with obfuscated test data in line with cybersecurity policies on data management

  • Working with the Digital Environment Manager, Cloud Engineering, Release Managers and delivery teams to plan and deliver on environment requirements

  • Monitoring environments, triaging environment defects and performing remediation activities for these defects.

  • This position is also responsible for working with the Digital Environment Manager, DevSecOps and Cloud Engineering teams to innovate in the area of environment provisioning and management through process improvement, automation, and site reliability practices.

    Skills & Experience

  • Excellent communication skills, particularly in communicating new ideas and leading through change.

  • Strong practical experience with cloud engineering and containerization concepts.

  • Strong practical experience with tooling and languages associated with cloud, infrastructure as code, and site reliability engineering (e.g. Terraform, AWS technology stack, Azure DevOps technology stack, Elastic Observability)

  • Strong practical experience with ops observability practices such as setting Service Level Objectives and Error Budget Policies.

  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g. YAML, Python, Perl).

  • Experience with DevSecOps transformations and service establishment.

  • Knowledgeable about CI/CD architecture, practices, and toolsets.

  • Knowledgeable about industry standard DevOps tools (e.g. Maven, BitBucket, AWS CloudFormation, Azure DevOps, Splunk).

  • Knowledgeable of SAAS/PAAS digital platforms
