The National Research Mentoring Network (NRMN) is a nationwide consortium of science professionals and institutions collaborating to provide students and scientists across all career stages of research in the biomedical, behavioral, clinical, and social sciences with enhanced networking, professional development, research resources, and mentorship experiences. The National Research Mentoring Network- Resource Center (NRMN-RC) is housed at the University of North Texas Health Science Center and provides a web-based mentoring tool, www. nrmnet.net, to facilitate real-time mentor/mentee engagement and networking.

Position Overview

The Institute of Health Disparities at the University of North Texas Health Science Center is seeking to hire a Digital Communication Strategist to join our team.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and three (3) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to interact with a wide range of UNTHSC personalities
  • Able to synthesize highly technical and scientific data and present it in a understandable format to a lay audience
  • Preferred Qualifications

    The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree (marketing, communications, or related field). • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Ability to travel to meetings /conferences/events to recruit mentors and mentees to the network and attend NRMN meetings. • Experience recruiting for non-profit organizations • Ability to coordinate webinars and virtual events • Two years of experience with social media or web platforms as well as experience developing content for social media or web. • Experience with the business application of popular social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. • Design and photo editing software. Experience developing visual content and taking photos, video editing, and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite or other graphic design and video, and photo editing software. • Experience with Google Analytics.

    Job Duties

    o

    Engage mentees who may have limited access to relevant mentoring resources to connect them to NRMN's resources.

    o

    Recruit and retain mentors and mentees from backgrounds underrepresented in the STEM workforce.

    o

    Provide and promote networking opportunities for NRMN mentees and mentors.

    o

    Present NRMN data and resources in workshops, meetings, partnership presentations, and recruitment events.

    o

    Position NRMN as a leader in mentoring in the STEM fields.

    o

    Educate current and potential members on the use of the network portal.

    o

    Develop and manage social media strategies that help meet organizational objectives.

    o

    Establish NRMN's presence on appropriate social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other social media/virtual platforms.

    o

    Create relevant and engaging content for social media platforms daily.

    o

    Monitor social media accounts for opportunities to engage with the audience and respond to questions and comments in a timely fashion.

    o

    Use analytics to optimize the content on social platforms & the NRMN's website.

    o

    Establish meaningful relationships with partner institutions to aid in developing content and growing NRMN's social media reach.

    o

    Explore and implement other online opportunities to expand and promote NRMN such as blogs, electronic newsletters, etc. Find and implement new social strategies, tools, and tactics as they develop.

    o

    Work closely with the NRMN technology team to represent the communications/product council.

    o

    Serve as a copywriter for assigned marketing and communications projects.

    o

    Maintain NRMN marketing website as well as the NRMN Photography Archive.

    o

    Develop programs such as webinars or online chats to educate members and potential members about the NRMN portal and resources.

    o

    Attend NRMN networking events to grow the social media audience.

    o

    Communicate on a daily basis with NRMN leadership, network institutions, and key stakeholders to determine priorities.

    o

    Work closely with the NRMN technology team to represent the communications/product council.

    o

    Join and represent NRMN in various committees within the Diversity Program Consortium
