Campus Norfolk, NE General Description

Under minimal supervision, this position will provide delivery of course instruction, facilitation of student learning and success, and ongoing development of curriculum and learning strategies that meet the needs of students and employers with emphasis in disassembly, measurement, and repair of diesel engines used in the trucking and agricultural industry. Includes the inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of internal components, cooling, lubrication, intake, exhaust systems, emission controls, engine brakes, electronic engine and fuel system controls, cooling systems, lubrication systems, air intake systems, exhaust systems, and emission control devices. Additionally, the instructor will collaborate with other faculty and staff members to provide quality instruction for a diverse student population and perform instructional duties and responsibilities in accordance with the philosophy, mission, and policies and procedures of the College.

Qualifications: Education

Bachelor's Degree in a related field or an Associate's Degree from an accredited college with three to five years (or equivalent) of verified, related paid workexperience in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines. A combination of licensure and/or certification in conjunction with work experience may be considered in the absence of a college degree.

Qualification:Experience

Three to five years of verified, related paid work experience in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines.

Preferred: Well-developed training/teaching skills within an industrial or educational setting. ASE Master Certification; Forklift Certification; Class A CDL; EPA 609 Certification.

Qualification:Skills

  • Strong knowledge disassembly, measurement, and repair of diesel engines used in the trucking and agricultural industry. Includes the inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of internal components, cooling, lubrication, intake, exhaust systems, emission controls, engine brakes, electronic engine and fuel system controls, cooling systems, lubrication systems, air intake systems, exhaust systems, and emission control devices.
  • Ability to prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching- related activities.
  • Ability to plan, implement, and sponsor appropriate activities to supplement instruction based on institutional standards and sound instructional design principles.
  • Ability to assist in selecting textbooks, developing/updating curricula, completing reports (including accreditation reports), tracking/reporting assessment data, and contributing to program review/strategic planning.
  • Maintains records and files (I.e., grades, assessment reports, department reports, etc.) and perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Dean and/or Vice President of Educational Services relating to the best interest of the program and student success.
  • Ability to evaluate, record, and report attendance. Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues/careers in the field.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with staff, students, faculty, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse ethnic, racial, socioeconomic, gender, and disabilities populations.
  • Ability to serve as a resource and liaison to part-time faculty as needed.
  • Possess proficient computer skills and familiarity with technology and software used to enhance instruction.
  • Attentive to detail, and the ability to accurately follow written and oral instruction

    This position will include teaching, tutoring and other responsibilities that foster student success and advance initiatives within the Diesel Technology department for the College. Applicants selected for an interview will be expected to provide a 15–20-minute teaching demonstration for the search committee.
