Offer Description

As part of the PMCapt maturation project, funded by SATT Erganeo in collaboration with the CERTES laboratory (Center for Studies and Research in Thermal, Environment and Systems), CSTB (Scientific and Technical Center for Building) and the ESYCOM laboratory (Electronic, Communication, Systems and Microsystems), we are recruiting a post-doctoral researcher.

Host laboratory : The research will be carried out in the topic « Air Quality - Sources and Transfers of Air Contaminants (QAI-STA) » of CERTES laboratory of the Université of Paris-Est Créteil (UPEC). The general objective of the research team is to develop knowledge in inverse modeling (statistical analysis, signal processing) and in aerosol physics and metrology, with the aim of studying the determinants of air contamination in indoor environments by gases and aerosols.

Abstract : Since 2013, the International Agency for Research on Cancer has classified air pollution and its particles as compounds « certain to be carcinogenic to humans ». Indeed, atmospheric particles are at the origin of various pathologies such as cardiovascular, cerebrovascular or respiratory diseases 1. Thus, the detection of these particles responds to a major health issue. To respond to this problem, detection tools have been developed in accordance with European and International regulations to control air quality and pollution in atmospheric particles. However, these measuring instruments have drawbacks, such as their costs, their mobility complexities as well as the impossibility of carrying out in-situ measurements in real time. This research project, carried out in collaboration between CERTES, ESYCOM and CSTB, aims to develop micro-instruments made up of micro-impactors and MEMS (Micro-Electro- Mechanical System) type resonant sensors. These devices, dedicated to sorting, detecting and characterizing atmospheric particles, will enable the mass concentration of aerosols to be measured in real time, in accordance with directives and regulatory standards. Through previous studies, having been the subject of the filing of a patent 2 and the publication of scientific articles 3, 4, the team was able to provide proof of concept of a microsystem for measuring the mass of aerosol particles sorted in size. In this context, a microbalance was developed to be integrated into a particle microanalyzer 3, with the aim of analyzing atmospheric aerosols. Previous studies have been carried out on the design and structure of the sensor surfaces. As part of this project, the study described in this offer will focus on the development of the micro-impactor.

Main objectives : Thanks to their expertise, the recruited person will have to participate in several tasks : 1. Design of micro-impactors, using Multiphysics modeling software. 2. Manufacture and integration of micro-impactors with MEMS type sensors in the clean room of ESIEE Paris. 3. Realization of experiment campaigns to validate the operation of microbalances (determination of the electrical characteristics) and evaluate the efficiency of the microimpactors.

Terms and conditions of employment: Profile : — A PhD / Postdoc in microtechnology, mechatronics, microfluidic — An interest in experimentation as well as teamwork is also required. — Fluency in scientific English (written and oral). — Excellent writing and oral communication skills

Remuneration : 2000 to 2500e net monthly according to qualifications and experiences. Duration : 22 months. Expected started date : As soon as possible Application : CV and cover letter have to be sent to Dr. Pierre Didier (pierre.didi[email protected]) and Dr. Emmanuelle Algré ([email protected])
