About our team/Mō te tīma

The University of Otago is New Zealand's first and oldest University. It has a strong teaching and research tradition and well-established national and international linkages. It is also one of New Zealand's largest universities, with over 20,000 students, assets in excess of $1.6 billion and 4,000 full time equivalent staff based in Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland and Invercargill.

The University's fundraising activity and alumni engagement is undertaken from the Development and Alumni Relations Office (DARO). Following significant strategic investment, DARO is now working to enable the achievement of some ambitious goals for the University. It is an exciting time to be a part of the professional fundraising and alumni engagement team in DARO, so that the goodwill, nostalgia and willingness to support the university is leveraged and maximised for the future of the University.

The role/Te mahi

As the Development Manager, Division of Commerce, you will be responsible for raising philanthropic funds for the Division of Commerce through effective development and implementation of a coordinated, integrated and enduring Development Plan in coordination with the PVC for the Division of Commerce and Senior Development Manager, DARO.

In this exciting role, you will actively identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gifts and sponsorships from individuals (alumni and prospects), businesses, trusts and foundations.

Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

Successful candidates will have: • A tertiary qualification in a relevant field. • At least 5 years' previous fundraising experience, or similar experience in building relationships with corporate clients and/or high net worth individuals. • The ability to interact effectively and quickly gain credibility with a wide variety of individuals, groups and organisations. • An ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate an international outlook and sensitivity for cultural differences. • The ability to work outside normal office hours, e.g. travel or evening work to attend University and Development events.

This is a permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week) position.
