  • The research activity will consist in the design of an ultra-stable optical cavity with a fundamental optical mode able to realize a double well potential for ultra-cold atoms. The reduction of the imperfections of the intensity profile of the radiation in comparison to freely propagating optical beams will have to warrant long coherence time of the interferometer using Bose Einstein condensates trapped in the developed potential. The candidate will realize the optical cavity making it compatible with a high vacuum system with lifetimes of the atomic sample of a few tens of seconds. The apparatus will be characterized by stability properties sufficient to allow the operation of an atomic interferometer with sub-shot noise phase resolutions through the use of quantum entangled states.
