Departmental Lecturer in Feminist Philosophy

The Faculty of Philosophy, University of Oxford, in association with Exeter
College, wishes to appoint a Departmental Lecturer in Philosophy to cover the
teaching and other duties of a permanent postholder during a period of
externally-funded research and sabbatical leave. This post is fixed term for
the period 1 October 2022 up to 30 April 2025.
The successful candidate will have at least an area of competence in Feminist
Philosophy and, additionally, an area of specialization in any area of
analytic philosophy. The candidate must be able to teach feminist philosophy
to both graduate and undergraduate students. In addition, the appointed person
will conduct research in Philosophy, and will undertake administration for the
Faculty and the College including, but not limited to, participating in the
annual admissions exercises and acting as assessor for undergraduate and
For the college, the successful candidate must be able to provide tutorials in
at least two of the three elements of the Introduction to Philosophy course
taken by first-year philosophers: General Philosophy (i.e. introductory
topics in metaphysics and epistemology); Moral Philosophy (studied via
engagement with Mill's Utilitarianism); and Introductory Logic. Candidates
should also be able to provide tutorials in a good range of advanced papers in
Philosophy (i.e. those taken by students in the second year and beyond),
including Knowledge and Reality. Further information can be found here.
The successful candidate should normally have received the degree of PhD or
DPhil in Philosophy, with an area of specialism in contemporary theoretical
and/or practical philosophy, or a related discipline by 1 October 2022, or at
least have submitted a completed doctoral dissertation for examination by the
advertised closing date for this position.
Candidates must have an outstanding research record appropriate to the stage
of their career with evidence of, or evidence of potential for producing,
significant research in the area of Philosophy. They must provide evidence of
the ability to provide excellent teaching and must have the ability and
willingness to assume pastoral responsibilities associated with undergraduate
and graduate teaching, and to act as an assessor at graduate and undergraduate
