The Department of Education is seeking to appoint a Departmental Lecturer in Digital Education. The post holder will teach on the Digital and Social Change pathway of the MSc in Education, and conduct internationally leading research on digital education, including attracting funded projects in this area. For this post, the Department wishes to appoint a candidate whose main research and teaching experience is in the area of digital education. All academic staff in the Department are expected to be strongly research active and the person appointed will enhance the Department's REF profile through their publications and research funding. A proven high standard of ability to research and to provide graduate teaching and supervision is expected for an appointment to be made.
The post holder will be responsible for working with the MSc Education Course Director to develop the course structure and content within their specialist area and contribute to overall curriculum development on the course through course committees and strategy working parties. They will prepare, teach and evaluate workshops, lectures and seminars, supervise student assignments and dissertations, take part in assessment of examined assignments and undertake admissions interviews. They will also be responsible for identifying sources of research income, developing proposals and making funding applications to secure it, as well as writing research articles for prestigious peer-reviewed journals.
The successful candidate will hold, or be close to completion of, a relevant PhD/DPhil, as well as a good first degree (or equivalent), and have teaching and research experience in the field of digital education. They will possess an aptitude for teaching and awareness of pedagogic methods, and have sufficient breadth and depth of knowledge in digital education to plan and teach sessions within the Digital and Social Change pathway. They will have evidence of the ability to write research proposals, experience of qualitative/quantitative research analytical techniques, and a strong publication record and familiarity with the existing literature and research in digital education. The successful candidate must also have strong interpersonal skills, and a track record that demonstrates the ability to work and interact effectively with people in a wide range of different roles.
The post is full time and fixed term until 29 September 2024.
The intended start date for this position is 01 January 2023.
