Housed in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the School of Social Work is one of two schools in the College.
The School of Social Work, accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), is a diverse group of scholars and educators covering many areas of specialization. The mission of the School of Social Work at NC State University is to prepare students for practice that addresses social, economic, cultural, demographic, and political changes affecting individuals, families, groups, communities and organizations. Through teaching, advising, research, and scholarship, the school emphasizes professional ethics, social justice, diversity, and community engagement. The program has a long history of program excellence, leadership in social work education, and continuous national accreditation. Faculty have a strong track record of external funding, interdisciplinary collaboration, and community engagement.
Comprised of fourteen tenured or tenure-track professors, eight professional track faculty, and twenty-one part-time faculty members, the School of Social Work offers a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and is among the earliest accredited BSW programs in the United States. Also offered is an undergraduate minor in Social Work. Additionally, the School of Social Work offers a Master of Social Work program and an Advanced Standing program. The School has partnerships with the public, nonprofit, and private sectors and emphasizes student and faculty involvement in professional, service, and academic associations and organizations.
Essential Job Duties
The School of Social Work is seeking an outstanding individual with a strong commitment to academic and research excellence commensurate with the expectations of a major research university, a proven record of effective leadership, a commitment to transparent communication, and a visionary approach to administration. The Head will assist in promoting research, outreach, graduate training, and undergraduate education while also advocating the mission and the values of the School of Social Work.
The Head of the School of Social Work reports to the Dean of the college and is responsible for the administration of the school. The Head provides leadership in support of faculty research, teaching, mentorship, and service efforts; recruits, hires, and supervises faculty and staff; manages budgets and enrollment; provides guidance in the strengthening and development of the undergraduate and graduate programs in Social Work, and promotes the school through leadership in college, university, and external strategic initiatives. The successful candidate will possess an outstanding record of research, teaching, and leadership accomplishments. Candidates with demonstrable commitment and experience in fostering diverse, equitable, and inclusive communities for research, teaching, and learning are of particular interest.
