Job Description

Reporting directly to the Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management , the Dean of Students holds a crucial leadership role at CSI campus. Serving as an integral member of the Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Leadership team, the Dean actively contributes through visionary and strategic planning which places students at the core of CSI's purpose, with a particular emphasis on proactive retention and fostering student engagement. The Dean is expected to exhibit a positive and approachable attitude, cultivating a welcoming atmosphere for both students and colleagues, as well possessing the technical expertise required to fulfill the detailed responsibilities of the role effectively. Integral to the role, is the ability to provide thorough, accurate, and compliant Title IX services in a timely manner. The Dean is entrusted with the responsibility of interpreting and addressing student concerns, whether in person, over the phone, or through virtual appointments, all while adhering to the college's established policies and procedures.

The Dean of Students serves as a visible leader, creating a welcoming and supportive campus for students and their families. A thorough understanding of CSI's student service processes is essential, encompassing knowledge of the admissions and enrollment processes, financial aid and scholarship application procedures, course registration, and record management. This knowledge base ensures comprehensive support for students from their enrollment journey through graduation.

The Dean of Students assumes a crucial role in the establishment and prioritization of a student's Sense of Belonging and their overall student life experiences at the College of Southern Idaho. This role calls for a professional who exhibits qualities of reliability, attention to detail, adaptability, organizational prowess, and a friendly disposition. Collaboration with faculty and staff is a fundamental aspect of this position, involving timely provision of student support that includes responding to emails, phone calls, greeting students, addressing inquiries, and extending assistance to students and their parents.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

 Develop and implement a comprehensive operational plan for Student Affairs that aligns with the college's strategic plan, mission, values, and goals.
 Provide innovative leadership in the design, delivery, and evaluation of student services, programs, and activities.
 Consistently researching and implementing new opportunities and ideas to enhance our Student Affairs department.

Student Support and Services:

 Oversee the development and implementation of student support services, including counseling, student housing, accessibility services, and health and wellness initiatives as well as the CSI Student Recreation Department.
 Collaborate with faculty and staff to create an inclusive and accessible environment that meets the diverse needs of the student population.
 Monitor student success metrics and develop strategies to enhance student retention, graduation rates, and overall achievement.
 Supports the institution's ongoing enrollment management efforts with robust participation as needed and guided by the Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.

Campus Engagement:

 Foster a vibrant and inclusive campus culture through the promotion of defined co-curricular activities, student organizations, leadership development programs, and community service opportunities.
 Work closely with student government and other student groups to amplify student voice and advocate for student interests.
 Provide cross unit and cultural collaboration with programs such as Athletics, Herrett Center, Community Education, and student success programs such as the library, tutoring center, and testing center.

Crisis Management and Student Advocacy:

 Serve as a point of contact for student concerns, grievances, and emergencies, ensuring timely and appropriate responses.
 Collaborate with college administrators to address student-related challenges and advocate for student needs.
 Ensure compliance with Title IX regulations and oversee processes related to sexual harassment and gender-based discrimination.
 Maintain confidentiality at all times.

Maxient Report Oversight:

 Lead the development and implementation of the Maxient Report, which focuses on campus safety and security measures.
 Collaborate with relevant departments to assess campus safety risks and implement preventive measures based on Maxent Report recommendations.
 Lead the CARE team to evaluate and respond to campus wide initiatives.

Compliance and Policy Development:

 Stay abreast of federal and state regulations related to student affairs and ensure compliance with relevant laws and guidelines.
 Develop and maintain policies and procedures that promote a safe and respectful campus environment.

Budget and Resource Management:

 Develop and manage the Student Affairs budget, allocating resources equitably and effectively to support programmatic and operational needs.
 Identify potential funding sources and grants to enhance student support initiatives.

Professional Development and Training:

 Provide leadership and professional development opportunities for Student Affairs staff, promoting continuous learning and growth.
 Stay current with trends and best practices in student affairs and higher education. Attend conferences such as NASPA and Title IX.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field (Doctorate strongly preferred).
  • Considerable experience (5+ years) in a leadership role within higher education, preferably in Student Affairs or related areas.
  • Strong understanding of student development theories, counseling techniques, and support services.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, and inclusion.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with various campus departments and external partners.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to assess data and make data-informed decisions.
  • Familiarity with relevant laws and regulations governing student affairs, Title IX, and campus safety.
  • Visionary and innovative mindset with a passion for enhancing the student experience.
