We have an opening for Dean of Humanities and Fine Arts at our Chattanooga State campus!

The role will be responsible for the following:

The Dean of Humanities and Fine Arts will provide oversight and direct support services to the faculty, staff, programs, and services within the Humanities and Fine Arts Division under the direct supervision of the Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Dean will shape academic strategy through collegial governance, strategic planning and institutional effectiveness processes. Through active participation in area business and industry, academic divisional, and local community organizational activities, the dean will promote and assist in the development of new courses and programs for the division.

Essential Functions

Fiscal Stewardship

  • Participate in college-wide planning and resource development; direct the development and administration of a cost-effective budget for assigned functions; direct the forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures; and make midyear corrections
  • Teaching Excellence and Program Innovation

  • Create and lead academic planning to provide quality programs in the Humanities and Fine Arts Division
  • Supervise the growth and expansion of all curriculum modalities of learning
  • Create a culture of innovation and input that encourages professional development and stakeholder input and provides opportunities for growth
  • In compliance with the requirements of the program and institutional bodies, develop new degree programs and options based on local and regional needs and the College's strategic plan
  • Support program chairs in maintaining program accreditation
  • In collaboration with other college divisions and with the area school districts, lead divisional initiatives to expand early postsecondary opportunities for high school students
  • Initiate collaborative programs and articulation agreements with baccalaureate institutions

  • Promote, support and participate in student recruitment and retention efforts

  • Organizational Culture and Inclusive Practices

  • Recommend employment, supervise, evaluate and recommend promotion and/or tenure for faculty; recommend retention or dismissal as appropriate; ensure that appropriate support is provided to full and part-time faculty; engage in conflict resolution among faculty and staff; support faculty/staff development
  • Work collaboratively with vice presidents and members of the President's Cabinet as needed
  • Work collaboratively with other divisions/departments in the development of short-term training to meet the needs of the community
  • Create a culture that promotes the ongoing implementation of new technologies
  • Advise the Vice President for Academic Affairs on matters of academic affairs and other college-wide issues
  • Represent the College with external community partners (e.g., business, industry, and other higher educational institutions)
  • Holistic Student Support

  • Collaborate with faculty, deans, and other administrators to meet the holistic needs of our students ensuring diversity, equity, and inclusion Provide leadership for activities and events that build community and serve students and staff
  • Position Requirements:

    • Master's degree (doctorate preferred) from a regionally accredited institution in a discipline taught with the Division • A minimum of 5 years demonstrated community college educational program management/leadership and supervisory experience • Minimum of five years community college teaching experience

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills • Must have the ability to collect information, perform analysis, and recommend solutions • Must possess a general knowledge of operation and organizational structures of a multi-campus community college environment; instructional standards, curriculum and accreditation requirements; computer software skills; file management and reporting systems; and initiating and successfully working with advisory groups and/or community agencies

    Projected Salary Range:

    76,200.00 - 95,245.00
