POSITION SUMMARY:

The Dean of Curriculum and Student Success (DCSS) provides leadership and oversight of University curricula and performs program and curriculum analysis including instructional design and project management tasks for new and existing programs. The DCSS is essential in the curriculum design and development process and provides academic vision and recommendations for monitoring the quality of the curricula across the University. Working closely with the Provost and the Academic Team, the DCSS ensures all courses (new and revised) are designed to maximize the student experience, by providing consultation and resources to faculty and academic leaders designed to enhance student learning and success. Among other things, the DCSS will have a focus on improving university curricula and student outcomes by focusing on building state-of-the-art courses, which will improve the student experience, increase course pass-rates, reduce course drop-rates, and increase course completion rates.

The DCSS will have extensive knowledge of best practices related to teaching, learning, and andragogy theory. The incumbent must work well in groups and be able to lead, train, and mentor other members of the Academic Team in areas of course development, course design, and course review/evaluation. Working with the Provost, the DCSS will provide consultation regarding budgetary aspects of instructional costs and policies and procedures related to curriculum design and development.

KEY JOB ELEMENTS:

Curriculum Management

Confer with members of the Academic Team to obtain knowledge of subject areas, and to relate curriculum materials to specific subjects, individual student needs, and program/occupational areas

Prepare and provide curricular materials needed for submissions to the State regulatory, programmatic and institutional accrediting bodies

Identify, summarize and provide information on equipment, technology, and supplies needed to support the quality delivery of the program curricula that have been newly developed or recently updated

Work closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) and instructional designers (ID's) to create syllabi, design documents, content outlines, lesson presentations, audio/visual scripts and other supporting documents for courses

Work with the Academic Team to develop and manage project plans that ensure on-time completion of assigned courses

Ensure curriculum and associated policies are in compliance with relevant standards and elements, working collaboratively with the Director of Education and Innovation

Curriculum Development and Review

Participate in new curriculum design from concept development through production to ensure a threading of instruction from concept introduction to concept development to mastery of concept, occurs throughout the curriculum

Conduct research and consult with faculty, staff, and business representatives in the design and development of new curriculum

Develop residential (traditional), Blended and Online courses, using needs assessments and skill level analyses

Manage the process of developing syllabi and instructional materials for each curriculum assigned to him/her, including such materials as lesson plans, supporting materials like lecture presentations, lecture notes, and project handouts, and formative and summative assessment instruments like quizzes, tests, and exams

Apply instructional guidelines, policies, regulations, and official notices; to the preparation of curricular content for instructional materials

Develop tests, questionnaires, and procedures that measure the effectiveness of curricula, and use these tools to determine whether course and program objectives are being met

Apply effective use of technological applications and tools to enrich student learning experience in all courses

Update training documents on a consistent basis and working closely with subject matter experts to evaluate and revise training tools as appropriate

Lead assessment of revised curriculum in assigned program clusters

Determine gaps within lesson plans and across units to strengthen existing curriculum

Create and lead curriculum review committees to support revision efforts

Manage timeline for revisions and ensure deadlines are met

Participate in-service training designed to support implementation of newly developed or revised curricula

REQUIREMENTS:

Extensive knowledge of learning theories and curriculum development and design

Master's degree in education, training, or related field. (Doctorate preferred)

Knowledge of university operational practices, policies and procedures, and the ability to follow them

Knowledge of the proper operation of and the ability to use personal computers and job-related software, including Microsoft Office Suite and other job specific software.

Knowledge of educational advising, tutoring and test administration, principles, practices, techniques and theory

Knowledge of student success services development and implementation

Knowledge of management practices and principles

Knowledge of student resources, referrals and services

Commitment to institutional, state, and national research regarding student success

Understanding of current higher education issues, trends and future conversations

Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to build successful relationships with students and Faculty

Excellent time and project management skills

Excellent critical thinking, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills

Excellent teaching skills as evidenced in prior teaching evaluations
