    Salary & Benefits

  • Full Salary Range: $88,836 - $133,255 annually
  • Anticipated Hiring Range: $88,836 - $111,046 - depending on qualifications
  • Cafeteria Plan: In addition to the base compensation, benefits-eligible employees receive an extra $5,640 per year to put toward benefit costs or to be used as additional take-home pay
  • Paid Holidays: 21 (including a full week off between Christmas and New Year's Day and over Spring Break)
  • Vacation & Sick Leave: Approximately 17 paid vacation days & 9 paid sick leave days accrued annually

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • LEADERSHIP: Leads Arts & Sciences (A&S) division effectively by establishing goals, strategies, and tactics that align with and support the College's strategic plan and executive priorities. Ensures that goals, strategies, tactics, and improvement plans are implemented in a timely and consistent manner and allocates necessary human and fiscal resources to do so. Identifies areas for growth and improvement within A&S by staying current with research and best practices in transfer education and by continually evaluating internal practices and changes in the environment and student needs. Facilitates clear communication throughout the division and with other College stakeholders. Convenes division and committee meetings. Leads the development and implementation of policies and procedures for A&S. Upholds and fosters standards for shared governance, assessment, collegiality, professionalism, confidentiality, and service. Advises and makes detailed presentations and recommendations to the Provost and other college constituents and community members on transfer education issues. Provides input, feedback, and assistance to other areas of the College when growth opportunities extend beyond Arts & Sciences.

  • PROGRAM & CURRICULUM MANAGEMENT: Collaborates with direct reports and other College administrators to manage the full range of Arts & Sciences programs – including English, Languages, Education, Humanities, Social Sciences, Mathematics, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Physical Sciences, Business, and Biological Sciences. Develops and enhances A&S programs in cooperation with external constituents, advisory boards, and College leadership. Supervises the development of new curricula for courses and programs. Ensures articulation of curriculum is current. Approves textbook additions or modifications. Monitors the effectiveness of all delivery methods, including distance education, and works with faculty and staff to recommend and implement instructional improvements. Conducts program reviews and makes programmatic decisions based on the results. Measures the performance of the division, including conducting and analyzing surveys and assessments, and takes corrective action when necessary. Educates faculty and staff on assessment.

  • PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT: Directly supervises A&S faculty and staff. Responsible for hiring and training direct reports and for providing ongoing training, development, and support for these individuals. Ensures a collaborative, positive, and student-centered workplace. Recognizes outstanding performance and notable accomplishments. Conducts performance evaluations and carries out corrective actions when necessary. Thoroughly understands and investigates violations of employee policy and procedures by gathering and analyzing evidence to draw conclusions, prepare reports, take corrective action, and/or make recommendations to supervisors or managers. Evaluates faculty credentials in cooperation with the Credentialing Committee. Approves faculty assignments to internal and external committees. Approves faculty teaching loads and recommends exceptions to the Provost. Advises employees and students on sensitive and confidential issues and resolves employee and/or student conflicts by mediating disputes. Works closely with Human Resources in advertising, hiring, onboarding, training, and managing personnel.

  • BUDGET MANAGEMENT: Responsible for efficient and effective management and appropriate use of all funds, including developing, monitoring, and approving budgetary expenditures. Complies with College, state, and federal requirements in purchasing and other fund expenditures. Works with CCC Foundation and other relevant groups to seek out additional funding sources, including grants and donations, to support Arts & Sciences projects and priorities. Provides or arranges budget and finance training for direct reports.

  • STUDENT SUPPORT: Investigates, mediates, and resolves student complaints and academic appeals in keeping with College procedures. Mediates grade appeals, petitions of various types, and course substitutions and authorizes exceptions to procedures as appropriate. Works with the Vice President of Student Services to investigate and resolve student conduct and disciplinary actions or facilitates their handling by faculty in Arts & Sciences. Ensures student confidentiality and due process are followed.

  • COMMUNICATION & COLLABORATION: Serves as a liaison between Arts & Sciences and internal and external departments, groups, agencies, and individuals to maintain partnerships and share information. Fosters cross- division collaboration and cooperation. Builds trust with internal and external stakeholders and serves as a positive voice in all interactions. Works closely with other divisions of the College, including Career & Technical Education, Student Services, Marketing, Information Technology, Facilities, and the Business Office, to resolve issues and provide the best possible experience for students and employees. Works with Student Services, Financial Aid, and the CCC Foundation on scholarship and grant programs. Works with staff and faculty to provide accurate and complete information on the web as well as in person. Ensures that activities and events originating in Arts & Sciences are coordinated with other College units and included on the master calendar and other publications. Communicates needs of Arts & Sciences in a complete and timely way. Informs A&S faculty and staff of things happening in other parts of the College and the external environment that are relevant to their work. Implements all programs and services as teaching and learning opportunities consistent with the principles of a learning college.

  • DIVERSITY, EQUITY, & INCLUSION: Leads efforts to incorporate culturally responsive teaching practices. Promotes equitable faculty hiring practices that recognize and mitigate bias. Works directly with the Executive Director of Human Resources and the Provost to ensure that all students and employees are fully included and provided with a safe, welcoming, and nurturing environment at the College. Helps to cultivate work and learning environments that encourage and support diversity; assists with identifying and rectifying areas where the College is lacking in multiculturalism or minority support. Leads inclusivity efforts within Arts & Sciences.

  • OUTREACH: Represents the College on relevant local, statewide, and national committees and boards, such as community organizations like STEM City, articulation task forces, and other groups related to division goals and objectives.

  • Strong leadership and managerial skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in program management, including planning and managing budgets.
  • Demonstrated skill in supervising and training others, in the organization, and in effective business and interpersonal communication.

  • Demonstrated commitment to maintaining professional ethics; supporting and promoting the mission of the college; working in a team environment; and integrating subject area curricula with other area curricula.

  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution or an equivalent combination of academic credentials, industry certifications, and professional experience that would qualify the candidate for teaching at a community college
  • Three years of full-time teaching experience in a post-secondary institution
  • Two years of supervisory experience in a post-secondary institution
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the job's essential duties and/or as approved by the Human Resources department.
