The Writing Program in the English Department at Rutgers University-New Brunswick is pleased to invite applications for the David Bartholomae Postdoctoral Lectureship in Writing. This is a one-year, full-time, non- tenure-track position with a start date of September 1, 2021. The salary for the 2021–2022 academic year is $62,912, and includes health and retirement benefits. Bartholomae Lecturers are eligible for conference travel grants.

This is a full-time teaching and administrative position with no research component. David Bartholomae Lecturers will teach eighteen credits in the Writing Program during the academic year. Some of these credits may include courses in the Rutgers English Language Institute, which serves multilingual students at Rutgers. David Bartholomae Lecturers will contribute to the administration and co-curricular programming of the Writing Program. Those opportunities and responsibilities will be determined in consultation with the Writing Program Director and Executive Director. Administrative activities of the lecturers may include coordinating and facilitating professional development events; participating in curricular assessment and revision; collaborating on the development of Writing Program publications and documents; contributing to the organization of the annual Undergraduate Research Writing Conference; and other duties as assigned by the Directors. The Writing Program provides instruction to more than 18,000 undergraduate and graduate students each year, and all courses share the curricular goal of helping students establish a foundation in writing and critical thinking practices that will serve them throughout their university careers and beyond.

Minimum Education and Experience

Successful candidates must have received their PhD from one of the Humanities graduate programs in the School of Arts and Sciences, Rutgers-NB, between January 1, 2019 and (pending) October 31, 2021. Candidates who do not yet have the degree in hand must have a defense scheduled on or before September 1, 2021 and must submit a letter of verification from the appropriate Graduate Program Director. A record of teaching excellence is required. Appointment decisions will be determined by evaluation of the candidate's submitted application materials, including CV, letters of recommendation, and Teaching Statement. SIRS course evaluations will also be considered, and candidates should provide them for courses taught outside of the Writing Program. Finalists will be invited to an in-person interview with the David Bartholomae Postdoctoral Lectureship Hiring Committee.
