THE PROJECT

The University of Essex in partnership with Newcross Healthcare Solutions Ltd offers an exciting opportunity to use novel techniques in machine learning and game theory to develop an automated and intelligent staff-shift matching system to be deployed on Newcross' HealthforceGo app, enabling better fulfilment of the shifts offered by our care provider partners. This is a rare opportunity to join a company in the healthcare sector, which is going through a technical transformation which will see our applications scaling to a level that will allow millions of healthcare workers to benefit from the use of our system. For more information about Newcross Healthcare Solutions Ltd, check out page 8. In the job pack attached.

This KTP project will be recruiting two Associates, and the successful candidate for this position will work alongside a Data Scientist (Algorithm Engineer) to deliver the project. The Associates will be joining a team of 4 Developers, set within a broader Engineering and Product team of 30+.

It is anticipated that both Associates will need to develop some level of familiarity with the other's work in order to develop a cohesive and optimised system. They will be supervised and advised on the academic side by Dr David Richerby, Dr Maria Kyropoulou, Dr Panagiotis Kanellopoulos and Prof. Luca Citi.

This post is fixed term for 30 months and is based at Newcross Healthcare Solutions Ltd offices in London.

  • Liaising with professional services in the healthcare industry to understand the business requirements and rationale of the programme of work.
  • Understanding the wider strategy behind the project and how it will impact on the company.

  • Contribute to the design of scheduling methods, for example by using machine learning techniques to design domain-specific heuristics for the scheduling algorithm.
  • Design and evaluation of machine learning algorithms.
  • Contribute to the down-streaming and adoption of new technology within Newcross.
  • A full list of duties can be found within the job pack attached.
