Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Data Analyst for the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS)- Dean's Office. Reporting to the Director, Human Resources – SAS, the Data Analyst is responsible for providing analytical support to the SAS Office of Human Resources and SAS units.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Work closely with the Human Resources team on data analysis (including confidential data analysis) providing overall direction and management for the gathering, compiling, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting of data.
  • The Data Analyst designs data modeling/analysis services to mine various systems and applications, builds, deploys and maintains data support tools, metadata inventories and definitions for database file/table creation.
  • The Data Analyst must adapt quickly to comprehend the unique business and operational constraints and needs and resolve those challenges, employing data analysis expertise to create solutions through the application of appropriate analytical techniques and methods.
  • Develop lasting technical solutions that leverage prevailing analytical tools, including Tableau and Excel with a focus on effective integration and sustainability.
  • Produce data visualizations that provide insight into data set structure and meaning.
  • Work with subject matter experts (SMEs), the Director-Human Resources, and the SAS Decision Support and Business Intelligence team, to identify important information in raw data and develop solutions that extract this information from a variety of data formats, including SQL tables and structured metadata.
  • Develop and implement statistical, machine learning, and heuristic techniques to create descriptive and predictive analytics.
  • Preparation and distribution of documents, including cost-related analyses, requested by the Office of University Labor Relations, and the Office of General Counsel in support of the university's labor negotiations efforts and in support of labor relations functions related to the administration of collective negotiations agreements.
  • Work is performed under minimal supervision using wide degree of creativity and discretion.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required in Math, Engineering, HRIS, Business Administration, Computer Science or related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in administrative services.
  • Certifications/Licenses

  • Valid Driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
  • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated experience utilizing a variety of data visualization tools and methods to create graphs, charts, timelines, maps, dashboards, infographics, etc. is required.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills working in a service-oriented environment.
  • Effective written and oral communication is a must.
  • Established organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products, including MS Excel, Visio and Project.
  • Ability to work independently or in teams.
  • Must work under minimal supervision using a wide degree of creativity and discretion
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Information Services experience from a Higher Education environment.
  • Experience with data visualization software such as Tableau, D3.js, ggplot2 or Gephi is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with statistical packages such as STATA, SPSS or SAS, or experiene with geospatial analysis software is preferred.
  • Equipment Utilized

  • The position will utilize database and data analysis tools (e.g. Tableau) to understand, analyze and report on data.
  • Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Ability to travel to all RU-NB campuses.
  • Many buildings have stairs.
  • Visual acuity to perform activities such as: viewing a computer terminal, reading, analyzing written information/data, etc.
