Project/Unit Description

The GTRI CIPHER Lab's Secure Information Systems (SIS) Division is currently seeking a new cyber security software engineer for its BRACE team. This new cyber security software engineer will work within a cohesive team to develop secure solutions to complex challenges, involving web applications, DevSecOps, legacy system modernization, and cloud solutions. Ideal candidates should have a strong understanding of industry standard software development practices, and demonstrated experience in designing, prototyping, building, and testing complex software, from initial requirements through implementation, verification, testing, and deployment.

Job Purpose

Software developer designs, develops, and tests code in languages such as Java, C, and C++. Requires extensive knowledge of programming languages, software development, and computer operating systems. Applies engineering principles to software creation. Necessary skill areas: Programming and coding, fundamentals of computer science, design and architecture, algorithms and data structures, information analysis, debugging software, and testing software.

Creates novel cyber security technology components and software to ensure that critical systems/information are resilient to cyber exploits and attacks. Performs attendant vulnerability assessments, analysis, and software engineering and design. Develops hardware and software prototypes, and tests those prototypes in realistic environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, test, and develop computer software in order to meet requirements.
  • Develop and maintain kernel and user-level software and scripts
  • Contribute to research reports, white papers, and competitive proposals
  • Additional Responsibilities
  • Full SDLC lifecycle including software development, software debugging, software modification / enhancement, usability testing, deploying, and maintaining documentation
  • Learning and understanding systems architectures to the extent the job requires such as operating systems, web servers, databases, networking, and any other system components
  • Create and analyze software algorithms
  • Understanding and using software issue tracking such as JIRA and disseminating information via wikis such as Confluence
  • Contribute to technical reports and presentations
  • Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience with one object-oriented language C++, C#, and/or JAVA
  • Experience with HTML and JavaScript
  • Experience with SQL and relational databases
  • Experience with Linux, UNIX or Windows
  • Knowledgeable in version control software such as GIT
  • Willing to pursue an advanced degree
  • Technical diagnostic expertise including problem investigation, reproduction, and resolution skills
  • Ability to acquire new skills efficiently
  • Thrives in a collaborative environment
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with web architectures including RESTful API design
  • Understanding of software architectures including OOP design especially n-tier design or client server
  • 1-2-year experience using C# and the .Net Framework or .Net Core
  • Familiarity with XML and XML parsing or tree traversal
  • 1-2 years' experience writing SQL code including table creation and stored procedures (SQL Server experience is a bonus)
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer or Information Science
  • Active Top-Secret Clearance
