Monmouth University is seeking applications for a Custodian in the Facilities Management department. The shift is Wednesday – Sunday, 4:00 pm – midnight.

The candidate would be expected to: clean buildings by manually sweeping and mopping surfaces; manually and mechanically scrubbing, stripping, waxing, vacuuming, extracting, shampooing, dusting, polishing and buffing surfaces; foaming showers and rest rooms; properly selecting and mixing cleaning chemicals; sanitizing and disinfecting surfaces and fixtures, etc. using auto scrubbers, buffers, vacuum cleaners, power washers, carpet extractors and hand tools.

This is an in-person on campus, non-remote position.

Must have a combination of the education and experience that provides the knowledge and skills to accomplish the normal job duties listed.

Typically, this combination includes, but is not limited to, the equivalent of six (6) months of experience in commercial buildings and/or facilities that demonstrates possession of the following knowledge and ability requirements: floor care and maintenance (including wood, VCT, carpet and stone); cleaning of rest room facilities; refuse and recyclable material handling and removal; general cleaning procedures for office furniture, windows, blinds, drapes, etc.

Ability to read and write in English and understand oral and written instructions, including MSDS directions, chemical product labels, equipment manuals, work orders and be able to carry out work orders as required.

Must be able to calculate mathematically; must be able to lift and move heavy objects regularly; use all required safety and personal protective equipment, (including respiratory protection).

Must be able to work in multi-story buildings without elevators; must climb ladders and work at heights, transport and operate powered machines regularly. Must be willing and able to work overtime as required and to respond to emergency calls after working hours.

Must have excellent attendance and work record; perform all work in strict accordance with accepted trade practices, code requirements and all safety and good housekeeping requirements. Must be extremely reliable and capable of working independently and without full-time supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

A high school graduate or equivalent. Possess and maintain a valid Automobile Driver's License in your state of principal residence. Ability to drive vehicles equipped with a manual transmission. Three (3) years of related experience.
