    Starting salary for this position is: $15.89 (Hourly)

    Employees starting at the entry step of this range receive salary step advancement after six months and every 12 months thereafter. If an employee starting at anything higher than the entry step of the range, will have salary step advancement after 12 months and salary step advancement every 12 months thereafter until they reach the top of the salary range. Each salary step advancement will be approximately a 5% increase in salary.

    The Community Colleges of Spokane is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Custodian 2 in the SCC Facilitates Department.

    GENERAL DEFINITION

    Positions work under the general supervision of the Custodian Manager, performs various housekeeping, custodial, grounds, and maintenance related tasks to ensure and maintain proper cleanliness of facilities at the Newport Facilities.

    CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Cleans all building spaces to include offices, classrooms, break areas, etc..
  • Cleans and sanitizes restrooms, toilet facilities; keeps them properly supplied with toilet paper, paper towels, soap, and other items.
  • Sweeps, mops, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors, walls, and woodwork; dusts furniture and equipment; empties and cleans ash trays and wastebaskets; polishes furniture and metal fixtures; washes windows; vacuums rugs, curtains, and furniture.
  • Makes rounds, locking doors, closing windows, and turning off lights.
  • Moves furniture and equipment; arranges tables and chairs for special events; collects and disposes of garbage and trash.
  • Removes snow from entryways and sidewalks by using a shovel or snowblower.
  • Performs yard and garden tasks such as picking up trash, mowing, weeding, and raking leaves and debris.
  • Performs minor maintenance tasks such as replacing lamps, spot painting, and other unskilled maintenance tasks.

    REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS)

  • Ability to communicate in English.
  • Able to read English and interpret instructions on Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Physical ability to do required work.
  • Acceptance of the responsibility to promote the welfare and best interests of students at all times.
  • A demonstrable understanding and acceptance of the mission, values, goals, and objectives of CCS.
  • The ability to perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations, and goals of the institution, community, and technical college system.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and supporting a teaching, learning, and working environment that honors diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Ability to perform cleaning duties specific to the Community Colleges of Spokane.
  • Knowledge of custodial chemicals and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to work alternate shifts.
  • CONDITIONS/TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States. This is an absolute condition of employment.     PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work requires long periods of standing and walking.
  • Work is active in nature.
  • Frequent kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing, and twisting.
  • Move up to 50 lbs. frequently and up to 75 lbs. occasionally.
  • Frequent repetitive hand/wrist motions and finger manipulation.
  • Requires communication ability necessary to understand instructions and recognize hazardous, unsafe, or poisonous materials and/or products.
  • Occasional exposure to fumes, dust, odors and/or biohazards.
  • Respiratory equipment used that may require adherence to applicable safety rules and standards.
  • CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Non-permanent hourly position – average 15 hours per week
  • This position is overtime eligible.
  • Requires local or regional travel.
  • Valid motor vehicle operator license required.
  • Criminal background check required.
